China Surpasses the US in Development of Electromagnetic Gun




On October 8, a committee of international experts held that the National High Magnetic Field Center in China’s Huazhong University of Science and Technology has already generated one of the best pulsed fields in the world, especially, its design of power source and magnet technology have successfully achieve world first ranking and surpassed by far similar design and technology in the world.

Regarding to this, some military experts hold that the technology is very useful in China’s military industry and the electromagnetic gun from that technology will be a high tech weapon under development. Such gun can be used not only in space-based anti-missile system to destroy enemy low-orbit satellites and missiles but also in intercepting the missiles launched from warships and armored vehicles. In addition, it can be used in air-defense systems and anti-armor weapons and in improving conventional guns.

Regarding to that technology, in 2010, the US developed as a powerful weapon its electromagnetic orbit gun. In a test firing, the gun could reach Mach 5 and hit a target 200 km away in an instant. It has a range more than ten times of that of a conventional naval weapon. China’s success again in that important project indicates that China has surpassed the US in related technology. The abrupt rise of China’s military industry scares lots of Western countries.
