Azerbaijan unveiled on 19 September what it describes as a "100% domestically developed" armoured reconnaissance vehicle and commenced serial production of a new 2.5 tonne patrol vehicle as the country continues to develop national land systems capabilities.

The newly unveiled patrol vehicle is based on the Soviet-era BRDM-2 design, and features a 23mm cannon; co-axial 7.26mm machine guns;' an AG-17 grenade launcher and smoke grenade launcher tubes. It weights 8,152 kg and is powered by a 155hp turbo diesel engine. Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defence Industry - which has a virtual monopoly on defence industrial activities in the country - said through the local APA news agency that despite using some (undisclosed) technologies acquired abroad, it is a "100% domestically developed vehicle" that is "very much different from the BRDM-2."
