Russia sells Vietnam 12 Sukhoi-30 multirole fighters for $758m

Vietnam has signed million-dollar contracts for the purchase of submarines and fighter jets from Russia, Vietnamese Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Tan Dung said on August 20.

The official told Interfax that Vietnam could buy a further 12 warplanes of this type, worth a total of some USD600 million.

“Vietnam signed contracts for the purchases of submarines and planes from the Russian side,” PM Nguyen Tan Dung said.

The Interfax-Military News Agency quoted another Russian source as saying the products will be delivered in 2014 and 2015.

This is the third contract for the purchase of Sukhoi Su-30MK2 fighter jets from Russia. Vietnam has been considered an important trading partner of Russia. The last two contracts of supplying 20 fighter jets for Vietnam were successful.

The Sukhoi Su-30 is a twin-engine, two-seat super manoeuvrable fighter aircraft developed by Russia’s Sukhoi Aviation Corporation.
