GEARS OF WAR Movie Adaptation Moving Forward With New Producer

According to Variety, a big screen adaptation of the hit first-person shooter video game franchise Gears Of War is getting closer to becoming a reality. Producer Scott Stuber (Ted, Safe House and the upcoming 47 Ronin) has acquired the film rights to the series (which has also spawned several comic books from DC), and will develop the script with video game company Epic. Despite having a first look deal with Universal, Gears Of War doesn't have a distributor at this point; a screenwriter has yet to be hired as well. The adaptation has been in development for years, having been left without a producer since New Line Cinema released it back in 2007. In the game, "the story is set on the planet Sera and follows a former P.O.W. who is civilization’s best hope in their fight against the Locust Horde, a race of creatures who emerged from underneath the planet’s surface and are intent on eliminating humankind."
