Israeli forces raid Aqsa mosque, attack worshippers

Israeli forces on Friday fired tear gas and stun grenades at hundreds of worshippers at Jerusalem’s Aqsa mosque, injuring some, activists said.

Witnesses posted photos and videos online showing dozens of riot police storming the compound and attacking crowds.

They wrote on Twitter that forces entered the mosque immediately after Friday prayers and assaulted worshippers. One person tweeted that a carpet at the entrance of the mosque caught fire.

Reuters cited Israeli police sources who claimed that security forces attacked the demonstrators only after Palestinians began throwing rocks and two firebombs at them.

On Monday, Israeli Member of Knesset Moshe Feiglin tried to enter al-Aqsa, one of Islam’s holiest sites, in a provocative move that outraged Palestinians.

But he was forced to turn back after an angry crowd formed near the mosque.

Tentara Israel Nodai Al-Qur'an, Warga Quds Gelar Demo

Dilaporkan pasukan Israel bentrok dengan sekelompok warga Palestina di dekat Masjid al-Aqsa di timur al-Quds (Yerusalem).

Saksi mata mengatakan pasukan Israel menembakkan granat di dekat masjid itu pada hari Jumat (08/03/13) untuk membubarkan jamaah shalat Jum'at yang memprotes penodaan terhadap kitab suci Al-Qur'an yang baru-baru ini dilakukan tentara Israel.

Warga Palestina membalas lemparan granat itu dengan melemparkan batu dan bom molotov ke arah tentara Israel.

Lebih dari selusin demonstran dan polisi Israel dilaporkan terluka dalam bentrokan ini.

Menurut sumber-sumber Palestina, pasukan Israel menyerbu sebuah pengajian di Masjid Al-Aqsa pada hari Minggu (3/3/13) dan seorang tentara Israel menendang bahkan menginjak-injak Al-Qur'an.

Liga Arab dan gerakan perlawanan Libanon, Hizbullah, juga mengutuk penodaan terbaru tentara Israel itu.

Sehari kemudian, dalam sebuah pernyataannya, Hizbullah menyeru semua negara Muslim untuk bersikap keras menanggapi pendoaan itu. [IT/TGM]
