Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger (非公認戦隊アキバレンジャー Hikōnin Sentai Akibarenjā?) is a Japanese tokusatsu comedy series based on the Super Sentai Series. It is not part of the official line up in Toei Company's Super Sentai franchise, with the current series being Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, but a parody geared towards adults who were fans of the franchise as children instead. The show airs on BS Asahi (TV Asahi's broadcast satellite channel) beginning April 6, 2012, and Tokyo MX beginning April 9, 2012.

Keiichi Sato designed the show-within-a-show anime character Z-Cune Aoi.

Plot
Three individuals (a Super Sentai otaku, a cosplay otaku, and a closet anime otaku) are chosen by a beautiful scientist to become the "Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger" and "protect Akihabara" from a powerful group villains that exist in their delusions. However, the fight eventually gets literally real when the villains begin to materialize in the real world.

The Akibarangers consist of three otakus that live in the Akihabara district of Tokyo who were given special technology by a scientist to fight an evil threat. The Akibarangers use "Delusion Power" (妄想パワー Mōsō Pawā?) to transform into their Akibaranger forms. In reality, the Akibarangers end up in a shared daydream state known as the Delusion World where they use the power of their imagination to fight the Stema Otsu Corporation. However, once the Stema Otsu's monsters start appearing in reality, the Akibarangers also start materializing their transformed alter-egos to pursuit them and eventually obtain the ability to transform directly in the real world. The trio's motto is "Pain Is Power!" (痛さは強さ "Itasa wa Tsuyosa"?). They can perform the Akibaship Attack (アキバシップアタック Akibashippu Atakku?) and the Heart-Technique-Body Attack (心技体アタック Shin Gi Tai Atakku?) while New Akiba Red was a member of the group.

Character
Nobuo Akagi(赤木 信夫 Akagi Nobuo?)/Akiba Red (アキバレッド Akiba Reddo?): Akagi is an average 29-year-old man who works as a delivery boy at Sasaki Pom Poko Delivery (佐々木ポンポコデリバリー Sasaki Pon Poko Deribarī?) and still lives with his mother. He loves the Super Sentai Series and is shown to have vast knowledge of the franchise, often having delusions about being a hero. He is also shown to have great interest in an anime called Nijiyome Academy Z-Cune Aoi (にじよめ学園　ズキューーン葵 Nijiyome Gakuen Zukyūn Aoi?). Whenever Akagi transforms into Akiba Red, his roll call involves recommending a warrior or villain from a past Super Sentai series while imitating their signature pose.
Mitsuki Aoyagi (青柳 美月 Aoyagi Mitsuki?)/Akiba Blue (アキバブルー Akiba Burū?): Mitsuki is a famous 18-year-old martial artist who became an Akibaranger to improve her fighting skills. She is a very serious person, but she secretly loves Z-Cune Aoi. Unlike her teammates, Mitsuki initially knows little to nothing about the Super Sentai until she spends a day watching episodes of GoGo Sentai Boukenger to better understand the culture of the sub-genre. She is very uncomfortable doing any of the things Akagi tells her to do, such as making poses or calling each other by their colors and not their actual names. However, by the middle of the series, she gains enough confidence to make her own roll call, referencing veteran action director Kazuo Niibori as her inspiration. An unusual feature of Akiba Blue's suit is a picture of a teddy bear printed on the lower backside of her uniform's panties.
Yumeria Moegi (萌黄 ゆめりあ Moegi Yumeria?)/Akiba Yellow (アキバイエロー Akiba Ierō?): Yumeria is a 23-year-old woman who loves cosplaying. Her name used here is a cosplay alias instead of her real name, Yuko Yamada (山田 優子 Yamada Yūko?). Though she acts like a child, she is actually an office worker during the day and speaks in a deep voice whenever her costume's look is compromised. She is also known to draw her own doujin manga and tries to sell them at Comiket, which she often babbles about during her roll call as Akiba Yellow. Due to her experience as a cosplayer, she tends to stay in character, even while transformed. In one such instance, she cosplayed as Mere from Juken Sentai Gekiranger and even adopted her fighting style in battle. She is also shown to have vast knowledge of the Super Sentai, however not as great compared to Akagi. Yumeria is revealed to be a fujoshi, as she has a tendency to go moe and lose consciousness over a homoerotic scene. Her mother Masako (雅子?) was a famous cosplayer named Miyabi (ミヤビ?), but died in a traffic accident five years ago.
Takuma Tsuzuki (都築 タクマ Tsuzuki Takuma?)/New Akiba Red (新アキバレッド Shin Akiba Reddo?): Takuma is an ICPO agent who is also Hiroyo's younger half-brother, his father meeting his mother during an Anime convention in New York. He becomes the new Akiba Red after Akagi is recruited by The Pentagon. As Akiba Red, he can perform the Surge Mice (サージマイス Sāji Maisu?) razor-sharp headbutt and the Surge Jaguar (サージジャガー Sāji Jagā?), a Geki Waza-like attack, projecting his energy as a jaguar to fiercely attack an opponent. After Akagi reveals that their reality is a TV series undergoing a mid-season change and that his appearance was part of a plot device, Takuma relinquishes his position as Akiba Red once he receives a text message to return to Interpol.
