My Alpha Didn’t Want Me… Until I Disappeared Chapter 01
When I was twenty, I knitted my very first scarf and gave it to the Alpha I secretly loved.
At his birthday party, Julian Sterling, the spoiled heir of the Sterling family, accepted it under the mocking gazes of everyone present.
Three days after my brother passed away, I went to drop out of college.
Passing by the professor’s office, I heard people rustling through files inside, casually chatting.
“Are you really planning to throw away that scarf from the wolfless girl?”
“That garbage? It doesn't even compare to the designer coat Nicola gave him. It's worse than a used cleaning rag in the Sterling Building. Just toss it.”
Nicola was his childhood friend and the most sought-after she-wolf in the pack at the time.
Julian smiled, casually tossing the scarf to his Beta, Wyatt.
Wyatt nimbly dodged. The scarf slid down and landed right next to the trash can, looking utterly ridiculous.
The moment my eyes met Julian’s, I silently grabbed my papers and walked away.
I knew perfectly well that I had no right to question him.
He stood behind me and seemed to say something, but I didn't hear it clearly.
Six years later, when I finally returned to Manhattan, New York, I heard a rumor.
Alpha Julian had a legendary "lost love" who had been missing for years.
I came back this time because my fashion brand needed to expand its retail presence.
On opening day, an old acquaintance walked into the boutique.
“Juniper?!”
I was organizing the early spring collection on the racks.
I had changed my name many years ago.
Hearing that name again made me freeze.
Once I snapped out of it, I turned around and met a pair of shocked eyes.
The man in front of me looked unfamiliar. He wore expensive cashmere that clearly cost a fortune, which complemented his sharp, aristocratic features.
But I couldn't remember where I had seen him. “Excuse me, who are you?”
The man scratched his head out of habit.
That single gesture instantly reminded me of his identity.
Wyatt. Julian’s Beta.
A girl stood beside him, holding his arm. She was tall, slender, and smiling warmly.
In the VIP lounge.
While the girl went into the fitting room, Wyatt looked around my boutique.
“Did you... did you really open this shop? This brand has been blowing up in Brooklyn lately. I never expected you to be the person behind it...”
Wyatt seemed to recall something, a flash of awkwardness crossing his face.
“About what happened back then, I was just making a stupid joke. Please don't take it to heart. Honestly, I've wanted to apologize to you for all these years, but I could never track you down.”
“Where have you been all this time? Why did you drop out so suddenly? You vanished without a trace...”
The more he spoke, the quieter his voice became.
Calmly, I took a fruit platter from the assistant and placed it gently on the table. “Nowhere special. I just went back to my hometown.”
I went back home, changed my name, and restarted my life.
Just as he was about to press further, his girlfriend stepped out of the fitting room.
The clothes fit perfectly. The girl was thrilled and immediately placed an order for several other styles.
But soon, she offered a suggestion.
“Your fall/winter collection is missing matching accessories. Other boutiques usually pair their outfits with scarves, hats, and shoes.”
“I noticed while trying things on that you don't have matching scarves. I think that's an area you could improve.”
I explained gently, “Our brand doesn't plan to branch into scarves for the time being. I'm sorry about that, but I can offer you a thirty percent discount on your purchase today...”
Before I could finish, a loud metallic crash echoed through the store.
I snapped my head around and saw a display rack I had been halfway through installing collapse onto the floor.
Wyatt was still saying something, but I hastily nodded, stepping aside to instruct my staff to handle the mess.
He looked overjoyed, immediately shoving a gold-embossed invitation into my hand.
“Then it's a deal! Tomorrow is Julian’s birthday. You have to come!”
Before I could refuse, Wyatt walked out with quick strides.
He didn't give me any chance to take it back.
Blair, my partner who had built the business with me, stretched as she walked out from the back room.
“What was that noise? It totally woke me up. What is this... an invitation from Julian Sterling?”
She stared blankly at the invitation in my hand, her raised arm frozen in the air as she gasped loudly.
“Isn't this the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack! I went to a fashion show a while ago, and he was sitting in the front row. He's tall, incredibly handsome, and took over the family business right after graduating from Columbia. He raised the Silver Moon Pack into one of the top three powers on the East Coast.”
“His birthday gala? How on earth did you land an invite?”
My tone remained flat. “Wyatt gave it to me.”
The moment those words left my mouth, Blair’s eyes filled with absolute reverence.
“Wyatt?! Oh my god, Caroline, just how many connections do you have that I don't know about?”
“First Wyatt, now Julian... but still...”
She leaned in, dropping her voice to a mysterious whisper.
“I heard Julian has always had someone he loved.”
“But apparently, she went missing, and he’s been searching for years without finding her. If I remember correctly, her last name was Carter... What a coincidence, Caroline, your last name is Carter too!”
