The Price Of Their Betrayal Chapter 01

My beloved husband and uncle told me they were the one who sold me to the Black Market.
I was tortured there five years, but Damien just said,
"You bullied Callie simply because we loved you. We just wanted you to learn how to behave.
"Callie's pregnant with my child. If you can't accept that, we can get a divorce."

I stared at Damien's expressionless face, then looked at Julian, who was calmly asking the staff to make mushroom soup for Calista Vance.
It felt like something inside my chest had been torn open.
Back then, I had gone to Julian myself and begged him to help me leave Damien. He held me gently and said he would take me somewhere safe.
I believed him and got into that van.
From that moment on, I lived through five years of hell.
Now that I had barely survived and made it back, they were telling me it had all been a plan they set up together.
"I'm leaving."
I made the vow silently to myself.
Seeing me laugh and cry hysterically, Damien reached out and wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes, his voice as gentle as it had been.
"You don't have to leave if you don't want to.
"It's just that Callie has been spoiled by us all these years; you can't bully her anymore.
"You can't have children anymore. Callie said she's willing to register the baby under your name, so you'll still be the child's mother."
I had once been pregnant with Damien's child.
At seven months, that baby was gone because Calista stepped on the gas and ran into me.
Before I was wheeled into the operating room, I was trembling all over from the pain.
Damien, however, tightly grabbed my blood-covered hand and forced my fingerprint onto the settlement agreement.
"Callie didn't mean to do it. Stop making a scene," he said.
After I regained consciousness, I lost control and tried to go after Calista to make her pay, but Damien locked me inside the hospital room.
The day I was discharged, I went to find Julian.
That was when I was taken and brought deep into the mountains.
My throat tightened as I forced the words out. "This was your punishment for me posting that video of you back then?"
"Yes," Damien said calmly. "You got Callie dragged online and cursed out by everyone for three days. She only hit you because she acted on impulse.
"As her older sister, you showed no understanding and even tried to hit her. We had no choice but to teach you a lesson."
My face felt cold as I pressed on, "You lied to me for five years, so why are you telling me this now?"
Julian sighed and looked at me like I was being unreasonable. "You and Callie are sisters. This lesson will make sure you treat her well from now on."
"Treat her well?" I mused.
I couldn't hold it in anymore. I grabbed the fruit bowl on the table and smashed it onto the ground.
Then, I yanked up my clothes, exposing the horrific scars covering my body as I broke down. "I was tortured day and night by the people you paid off. Even my legs were—"
"Enough!" Damien cut me off sharply, the disgust in his eyes impossible to hide.
"Those scars look very convincing. It looks like you still haven't learned your lesson."
Julian also looked at me with disappointment and shook his head.
He grabbed my arm roughly and shoved me into the storage room.
"If you still don't know how to back down when Callie gets back, I'll personally send you back to the mountains."
He dropped the threat and slammed the door shut.
In the darkness, images flooded my mind—dirty hands, the stench of men's breath, and my ever-growing belly.
I pounded on the door frantically, my voice hoarse. "I'll divorce him! I don't want anything! Just don't send me back there!"
I didn't know how long I kept shouting. The old wound on my palm split open, blood covering my hand, before the door was finally opened.
Julian stood there. When he saw my disheveled hair and swollen eyes, the brief tension on his face gave way to disgust.
"You just got back, and you're already causing trouble. Can't you just shut up for a bit?"
He shoved me impatiently.
My body, weighing less than 40 kg, hit the ground like a discarded rag. My prosthetic slammed against the tile with a harsh, jarring sound.
Julian paused, then curled his lips into a cold sneer.
"Playing the victim again, are you? You're just trying to make me feel sorry for you."
Despite everything I'd already seen of how ruthless Julian could be, my heart still trembled violently.
The Julian I used to know would never have spoken to me like that.
By the time I came into this world, the original owner of this body had already been recognized and brought back to the Vance family.
Compared to Calista, the fake heiress they had raised for over a decade, I was the daughter dragged back from the slums, completely useless in their eyes.
Everyone ignored me and treated me coldly, except for Julian.
He would travel long distances just to bring me a bouquet, and every time he went on a business trip, he brought me back gifts.
When I got sick, he was the first to notice and stayed by my bedside all night, taking care of me.
When I turned 18, I moved out of the Vance's residence and went to live with Julian.
That same winter, I found Damien.
He was lying in the snow, covered in blood, just like an animal pushed to the edge with nowhere left to run.
I begged Julian to take him home.
Julian let out a helpless sigh as he ruffled my hair, then walked over to Damien and looked down at him with a cold warning. "If you want to live, fine. From now on, Rosie is your owner. If she loses so much as a single hair, you'll pay with your life."
From that moment on, Damien became my personal bodyguard.
In seven years, he climbed from a solitary, dangerous outcast to an arms dealer who could control everything with a single move, yet he still treated me like something precious.
Back in my original world, I was an orphan who had never been cherished or doted on.
After completing my mission and making sure the two of them wouldn't fall into the clutches of evil again, I chose to stay in this world.
That lasted until Julian brought Calista home.
He wrapped an arm around me, his voice gentle. "Rosie, Callie's innocent. We can't just leave her out there. I promise you, I'll only make sure she's alive. She won't take your place."
Even though I didn't like it, I didn't want to put him in a difficult position.
What I didn't expect was that Calista wouldn't be satisfied.
In front of me, she always acted meek and obedient, yet the moment my back was turned, she pushed me toward ruin again and again.
When Julian came down with a high fever and lost consciousness, I stayed by his side the entire night.
The second he opened his eyes, Calista squeezed past me with a bowl of mushroom soup, her eyes already red. "Uncle Julian, you're finally awake. I stayed up all night, and I burned my hands making this..."
I was the one who secured that nearly impossible arms deal for Damien's company.
As he walked by, Calista suddenly slapped herself across the face, her voice trembling with tears. "Rosie, don't worry. I won't tell Uncle Julian that I landed the deal by drinking until my stomach bled. You can have all the credit."
Over and over, I was sabotaged, my hard-won victories stripped away in silence.
The way they looked at me grew colder and more disappointed, while their eyes softened more and more whenever they looked at Calista.
Even on the day Damien married me, his face was shadowed with resentment.
I couldn't bear this shift. I cried, I fought, I made a scene, yet all I got in return was his icy response. "Rosalie, if you can't handle it, then divorce me."
At the time, I had just found out I was two months pregnant. I didn't want my child growing up without a father, so I swallowed every bit of the pain.
Still, everything fell apart the day of my prenatal checkup, when I saw Damien pull Calista into the Maybach.
He lost control. His hands gripped her waist as he thrust into her with a relentless rhythm.
Rage took over, and without thinking, I posted the video.
After that, I lost my child, my life was destroyed, and I spent five years drowning in pain and despair.
The countdown flashing before my eyes snapped me back to reality.
There were six hours left.
I pushed myself unsteadily to my feet and met Julian's mocking gaze, my voice numb. "I'm not playing the victim. If you all find me that repulsive, then sign the divorce papers and the severance agreement."
Before I could even finish, a loud crash echoed through the room.
Damien stood in the doorway, his expression dark, while Calista leaned against him with tear-filled eyes.
