Goodbye To Him Hello To Myself Chapter 01

Before our honeymoon, my husband, Denzel Buckley, canceled our plane tickets behind my back.
He switched them to a solo trip with his childhood sweetheart, Yvette Vazquez.
I didn't fight or make a scene. Instead, I acted like I didn't know.
Quietly, I canceled the honeymoon myself and bought a one-way ticket to the other side of the world.
Then I called my mom. "Mom, I'm going to Australia with you. I'll explain everything when I get there."
After I hung up, I collapsed onto the couch, trying to steady the wave of emotion crashing through me.
We'd only had the wedding. We hadn't registered our marriage, which made things simple.
Like now, I didn't have to wait for him to come home and talk about divorce.
I swallowed everything down and forced myself to get up to pack.
In the closet, the neatly pressed matching outfits looked like they were mocking me.
I'd designed them myself for our honeymoon photos.
I spent nights staying up, tweaking every detail over and over, and I just got the final pieces back today.
Half an hour earlier, I was still excited to have Denzel try them on.
Now, I ripped months of work off the hangers and shoved it all into the trash.
I packed in a frenzy. By the time I grabbed my suitcase and headed for the door, it was already past midnight.
The elevator doors opened. A familiar voice echoed down the hallway.
Then, the lights snapped on.
Through my blurred, stinging vision, I saw Denzel, who hadn't been home in three days, carrying Yvette on his back.
When he saw me, his grip loosened, and she slipped off him.
"Yvette is drunk," he said, frowning, like he needed to explain.
I didn't know why he bothered.
They grew up together, and their families were close. Everyone thought they were the perfect match.
Then in college, he chased me for three years.
He thought that proved there was nothing between them.
In the past, I had worn myself out with endless overthinking, caring too much, and fighting.
But now, whatever they had going on had nothing to do with me.
I looked away and said flatly, "Yeah. Makes sense."
I started pushing my suitcase toward the door.
It was exactly the kind of answer Denzel should've wanted, but it didn't sit right with him.
He grabbed my wrist, a trace of undetectable sarcasm in his voice. "What did you say?"
"I said..." I let out a breath and looked at him calmly. "We're done. I'm breaking up with you."
