Safe locker at home — paranoid or actually necessary? share your experiences
So here is the thing bro... A few weeks ago something happened that made me start seriously thinking about the security of documents and valuables at home. Not a robbery or anything dramatic. What actually caused panic was realizing that the house certificate, family passports, and several other important documents were stored in a desk drawer that did not even have a lock. If there was a fire, flood, or even a thief entering while we were away on a week long vacation everything would just be gone. Started researching safe lockers and it turns out the options are far more than I thought. From small models for inside wardrobes to large ones that need to be anchored to the floor or wall. From ones with regular keys to digital ones with fingerprint or PIN. Finally after several weeks of research and asking around at several stores we decided to go to Anwer Hardware after getting a recommendation from a neighbor who had just bought a safe locker last month. The available selection was quite complete and what was most helpful was the staff there who could explain the differences between various models not just about price but about security level, steel material thickness, and lock mechanisms. What we finally chose was a mid range model large enough for important documents plus some jewelry but not so large that it would be difficult to move if needed. Anchored to the floor so it cannot just be lifted. What I did not anticipate was how calm it feels after the safe locker was installed. It might sound exaggerated but knowing that important documents are secured properly changes something mentally. For those who already have a safe locker at home what prompted you to buy it in the first place? And for those who do not yet have one do you feel this is excessive or is it actually on your to-do list?
