The Wire He Chose Killed Our Son Chapter 01

My husband's mistress killed someone with a bomb. A month later, my husband finally realized something was wrong. He asked, "Why hasn't the victim's family asked for compensation?"
His assistant said, "Sir... You are the family."
He froze. "What do you mean?”
"Remember the fake bomb you used to stage your son's kidnapping? Kayleigh switched it with a real one.
"And when your wife asked which wire to cut... You said, 'the red one'.
"She believed you. But your son died instantly.
"Sir... you didn't know?"
His face went white.
--
I secretly sent Alexander Carrillo's mistress, Kayleigh Levine, overseas without telling him.
That same night, he kidnapped our son, Thomas Carrillo, who had just finished his SAT, and hid him at a reservoir. There was a ticking time bomb strapped to his body.
His expression was eerily calm, as if he were negotiating a business deal.
"Natalie Aguirre, you'd better tell me where Kayleigh is. Otherwise, your son is going to be blown to pieces because of you."
I broke down, screaming, "He's your son too!"
Alexander didn't react. He just glanced at the time.
"You've got 56 minutes."
Sobbing, I gave him Kayleigh's location. In return, he told me where the reservoir was.
I ran like mad. When I got there, I saw Thomas tied up, the countdown on the bomb ticking down second by second.
59 seconds.
58 seconds.
57 seconds.
My hands were shaking as I desperately tried to untie the ropes. But no matter what I did, I couldn't figure out how to disarm the bomb strapped to him.
The ticking countdown kept ringing in my ears, like a death sentence closing in.
Tears streamed down my face. I wished I were the one tied up instead of Thomas.
"Don't be scared, baby. I'm here. I'm going to save you. I won't let anything happen to you..."
His face was ghostly pale. Tears welled in his eyes as he whispered goodbye.
"Mom, just go. Stop trying. I'm really happy to be your son. You and Dad can have another child later. Don't be sad because of me..."
Even now, he didn't know the person who tied him up was his own father.
I was falling apart. Completely losing control, I called Alexander, begging for help. "Tell me which wire to cut! Hurry!"
He let out a cold, mocking laugh, his voice tight with suppressed anger. "The red one. Cut the red wire."
Then, he hung up.
I stared at the countdown, found the red wire, and yanked it with everything I had.
The moment it snapped, a deafening explosion ripped through the air, throwing me back several meters.
I ignored the pain and forced my eyes open, searching for Thomas. But all I saw was red.
"Thomas!"
I couldn't understand what went wrong. I did exactly what Alexander told me. I cut the red wire.
I crawled over and pulled Thomas' broken, bleeding body into my arms, sobbing so hard that I could barely breathe.
At the very last second, he had pushed me away. And now, all I could do was watch him lying there.
I gathered every bit of strength I had and lifted him onto my back. After calling for an ambulance, I stumbled toward the road.
The doctors and nurses rushed over. When they saw him, even they were shaken.
"Quick! Get him into the ER now!"
I stayed outside the operating room. A nurse tried to treat my injuries, but I refused.
I kept praying over and over. I was willing to trade my life for Thomas'.
But what I got instead was a critical condition notice.
I dropped to my knees, grabbing the doctor's pant leg, banging my head on the floor as I begged.
"Please, save my son. He just finished his SAT. His life is only just beginning..."
The doctor hesitated, clearly struggling. "I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do. In a case like this, only top specialists might have a chance."
I ran to find those specialists, only to be told they'd all been transferred.
And the person who ordered their transfer was Alexander.
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Hands trembling, I dialed his number once more.
