A Marriage Worn To Dust Chapter 01
Once again, My husband Dorian brought a woman home—this time, a young model.
I was cutting fruit when he, one arm around her, asked the girl which scents she liked for condoms.
Seeing me, she got scared and dropped the box.
Her panicked look drew a fond, doting chuckle from Dorian.
"You're way too intimidating. You scared her," he told me.
Then his eyes fell on the knife in my hand, and he instinctively stepped in front of her and pulled her closer.
There was a reason Dorian behaved that way. Last time, when he brought a washed-up influencer home, I grabbed a fruit knife and ruined one of his expensive paintings.
Seeing how careful he was now, I gave a small, bitter smile and walked toward the study with the fruit platter.
Dorian's cold voice came from behind me.
"You're acting calm and nice. What happened?"
Before I could answer, he snorted.
"If you were like this earlier, we wouldn't have fought all the time and made a joke of ourselves."
I paused, but I didn't turn around.
Like he said, we'd spent five years fighting and hurting each other.
The very first argument was about a lipstick mark on his shirt.
I trashed the closet and demanded to know who it belonged to.
He panicked, frantically explaining that it was an accident—he had simply brushed against someone during a business dinner.
He even swore I was the only woman in his life.
I didn't believe him.
Early the next morning, I told his family what had happened.
Dorian was forced to kneel outside my bedroom all night, begging for my forgiveness.
He even put it in writing, promising that he'd never do it again.
Only then did I calm down.
Later on, I found a diamond earring in his car.
I didn't explode right away. I checked his dashcam first.
When I heard him flirting with a young actress in the car, I couldn't hold back anymore.
I rushed to his office and threw hot coffee all over him right before the eyes of his entire executive team.
"Dorian, you're disgusting!"
He stood there, wet and embarrassed, without offering a single word of defense.
That silence broke me.
I lost control and destroyed his office.
Over the next fifteen days, I cried every day and lost a lot of weight.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw how much he used to love me.
It felt like something sharp was stuck in my heart.
I wasn't brave enough to pull it out, so it just kept hurting until my heart was like a bloodied mess.
The pain was so raw that it kept me awake day and night.
So I forgave him again, just to keep up the appearance of our marriage, just to... stay by his side.
I still loved him and couldn't bring myself to leave, but I couldn't change him either. So I forced myself not to care.
Later, when I caught him again with another woman, it didn't hurt as much.
I asked for a divorce, indifferent.
This time, he wasn't nervous at all. He blew out a smoke ring and smiled. "Rosalie, what's the point? Our families are tied to the same stake.
"You can't leave me."
I hated how sure he was. I swore I was done with him.
Yet, a week later, my family's cash flow was cut off, and only his family could help.
I could no longer lash out hysterically and recklessly the way I used to.
I had to swallow my anger and compromise, all for the sake of my family. So I went to him for help.
He smiled and brought up that stupid deal again, clearly satisfied and acting like he held all the cards.
"See? I told you—you can't leave me.
"This open marriage is in both our interests. So as long as I keep respecting you in public, there's no need to make things so ugly between us, is there?"
He was wrong. This time, I stayed not for him, but for his family's power.
I already had the new equity transfer papers drawn up.
I was definitely taking his shares.
