He Gave Me To His Bestfriend Chapter 01

After a car accident landed me in the hospital, I suddenly felt like messing with my boyfriend, Preston Monroe.
"Who are you?"
The look on Preston's face froze for a beat, and I was just about to laugh.
But then Preston suddenly pointed at his best friend, Dominic Kane. "I'm your boyfriend's best friend. He's your boyfriend, Dominic."
The expression on my face stiffened.
Dominic stepped forward. "Yeah, I'm your boyfriend."
I forced a smile. "Then take me home."
***
Dominic took me home.
He said I had always lived there.
I looked at the place, a home that did not carry the slightest trace of me actually living in it, and nodded along with him, pretending to be just as blind to it as he was.
I lay on his bed for a while. I was about to get up to find some water when I heard voices from the living room—a phone call on speaker.
"Nico, do me a favor and pretend to be Lina's boyfriend for a while."
"Aren't you worried she might suddenly get her memory back?"
"If she remembers and gets mad, I'll just smooth things over then. She loves me that much. She'd never really leave me.
"It's just that we've been together since college, all the way up to now, and honestly, I'm getting tired of it. This is a good chance for me to take a breath and have some fun on the side," Preston added.
"So you really did hook up with that Jocelyn Cole. You just want to use this chance to fool around with her, huh?"
Preston chuckled, "Well, since you already know... but I definitely love Lina more.
"While Lina's staying with you, don't put your hands on her.
"Still, out of everyone, you're the one I trust most. You always seemed like you couldn't stand Lina anyway."
My bare feet stepped backward across the floor. I went to the door, made a little noise on purpose, then turned and walked back toward the living room.
The moment Dominic heard me, he hurriedly hung up his phone and got to his feet.
"The floor's cold. Why weren't you wearing shoes?"
He rushed over, scooped me up into his arms, and carried me to the couch.
"I'm thirsty."
I couldn't find where the water was.
"I'll get you some."
Dominic went to pour me a glass.
He sat beside me and watched as I drank. "Do you still feel unwell anywhere?"
I shook my head.
He lifted a hand and brushed aside my slightly tangled hair, then leaned in and kissed my forehead.
I froze. A moment ago, I had clearly heard Preston tell him not to touch me.
And I had always felt that Dominic disliked me.
Yet now...
When he moved to kiss my lips, I turned my face away.
Unbothered, he gently stroked my cheek. "You don't remember anything. We can take it slow. You can get used to me little by little."
It seemed Dominic was deceiving his best friend, too.
By the time Dominic brought me into the private lounge, the room was already lively.
A group of young men from old-money families fell into a sudden, perfectly coordinated silence the moment they saw me, then all looked toward Preston.
"Oh, Lina's here. Do you still remember me? I'm your college roommate, Jocelyn." Sitting beside Preston, Jocelyn greeted me brightly.
Dominic led me over and sat me down. I looked at her and shook my head. "Sorry."
"It's okay. We can all get to know each other again."
As she said that, Jocelyn looped her arm through Preston's and leaned against his shoulder with practiced intimacy.
This former college roommate, later friend, now seemed openly pleased with herself. Thinking I had lost my memory, she clung to Preston as if staking her claim.
And Preston, too, seemed to enjoy the special thrill of acting intimately with another woman right in front of me.
"Yeah, exactly. You two are best friends and have boyfriends in the same circle. That's pretty perfect."
"You can all hang out together all the time. Memory loss or not, it doesn't really make a difference."
The others chimed in with those kinds of comments, all of them clearly in on it, carrying the ugly amusement of watching someone be cheated on in public without knowing it.
Then everyone went back to playing games.
Preston and Jocelyn held the same biscuit stick between their mouths, each bite bringing their lips closer and closer.
"Kiss! Kiss!"
The room erupted in cheers.
And in that atmosphere, Preston and Jocelyn kissed deeply.
Afterward, Jocelyn leaned into Preston's arms with feigned shyness, then shot me a secret, smug glance.
Preston looked pleased, too, with one arm wrapped around her.
Then I lost a round, and my punishment was to choose one person and kiss them for 30 seconds.
The room quieted again as everyone looked at me.
They were all wondering who I would choose.
Would I still instinctively pick Preston?
Preston suddenly seemed tense, his eyes sliding away.
It was as if he didn't want me to react on instinct that quickly.
Beside me, Dominic had gone rigid too.
I smiled. "Obviously, I'm choosing my boyfriend."
