Work By Day Lie By Night Chapter 01

I was James's secretary.
But I couldn't take it much longer.
Who would have thought that James, who was icy and unapproachable during the day, was an absolute s1ut in bed at night.
During meetings, his long fingers would tap lightly on the table, his expression sharp and intensely intimidating.
Yet all I could think about was this same man wearing black silk suspenders last night, curling his toes and calling out sweetly: "Honey, hurry up~"
"Ms. Belmont, Ms. Belmont!"
A colleague next to me nudged me, and only then did I hear James calling me. I immediately apologized:
"I'm sorry, James, I was just..."
"Spacing out during a meeting? Did I pay you all this money just to sit around and do nothing?"
His face was full of disgust:
"Do you not sleep at night? You look half-dead every single day. And since when could secretaries at Universal come to work looking so unkempt?"
I froze for a second, following his gaze, only to realize he was talking about the hickey on my neck.
Even my silk scarf couldn't hide it.
I pursed my lips and whispered, "I'm sorry, James, I..."
"I don't need explanations!"
He glared at me coldly: "Ms. Belmont, I hope you understand that if it weren't for your sister, you wouldn't even deserve to keep this position!
"You and your boyfriend need to tone it down. I don't want to see this kind of indecent display again. One more time, and you're fired!"
With that, ignoring my deeply embarrassed expression, he slammed the files onto the desk, lifted his chin, and announced sharply:
"Meeting adjourned!"
Getting scolded made me feel deeply ashamed.
But I still couldn't muster any energy.
I had slept for barely three hours last night, and my head felt like it was going to explode.
I sat at my cubicle, staring blankly into space with a gloomy expression.
As lunch approached, I stumbled downstairs and headed to the apartment right next to the company.
I dug out an elegant haute couture dress from the closet, along with a dazzling diamond necklace.
Under the dim lighting, the yellow diamond looked as rich as solidified amber.
It was the set James had won at an auction last month for his wife.
Worth tens of millions, it had even made the news headlines at the time.
Yet now it was in my hands, being casually tossed against the table just so I could listen to the clinking sound for fun.
Yes.
The wife he loved to the bone was me.
The secretary he scolded until she lost the will to live was also me.
