When The General Lost Me Chapter 01

After our breakup, I deserted the military quietly.
My right hand was crippled, my legs paralyzed—I took on a new identity and opened a small pharmacy near the border.
Five years later, Dorian stepped into my shop right after a young officer told me Dorian had never married and had been waiting for me all these years.
Five years apart, he was just as striking as ever, his uniform crisp and perfect. He stared at me for a long moment, his expression hesitant, like he had a million things to say.
In the end, he only said softly, "It's been a while, Tali."
"Yeah. It's been a long time," I answered coolly, my face showing none of the emotion a long-awaited reunion should stir.
Five years ago, Evelina claimed I had prescribed a substandard ointment that gave her an STD.
Dorian flew into a rage. He shattered my dominant hand and leaked our most private bedroom photos to a military subreddit. "I’ve been with her. She’s good. And she didn’t cost a thing."
His comrades tried to hold him back. "You’re supposed to marry Talia—why are you ruining her?"
Dorian’s face was cold. "Because of the bad meds she gave Lina, Lina got sick, spiraled into depression, and almost killed herself. Yet Talia still refuses to admit it. Someone like her doesn't deserve to be a doctor.
"I’m just bluffing. I’m not actually letting anyone else touch her to give her an STD."
I stood at the doorway, pale, meeting his eyes.
He showed no remorse at all, brushing my hair as he said, "You messed up. You deserve this.
"Cure Lina. Apologize to her in person.
"And I'll still marry you."
Holding back my tears, I shared the link.
A second later, a message popped up: "I'll take her."
Dorian crushed his wine glass in his fist, rage twisting his features.
The officers around him went silent.
Someone murmured, "General... you should call this off. You’ll get yourself into trouble."
Dorian turned to me. "Talia, what do you say? Wanna come apologize with me?"
I lowered my eyes and walked down the hall.
From behind me, his voice was casually cruel. "She doesn't care. Why are you all so nervous? If someone wants her, I'll let them have her."
As I walked out, people pointed and whispered behind my back.
Shame and grief crashed over me.
Suddenly, a drunk man lunged at me, clutching my waist. "Word is you like guys with STDs. Lucky you—I just got diagnosed with one."
I shook violently and screamed at the top of my lungs, "My husband is a major general! Touch me and—"
"Wow, you’re really shameless—married and still messing around with guys like that online. Everyone’s seen your chats. What soldier would want you?"
He waved his phone at me. The screen burned my eyes. "Get your husband here. If he shows up, I'll let you go."
The private room door at the end of the hallway opened.
Dorian walked out with several officers.
I burst into tears. "Dorian, help me!"
He didn’t even look at me, just smiled at the drunk. "Congrats, buddy. She’s into guys with STDs."
Then he walked away.
The drunk man laughed out loud. "I know you were lying. General Whitlock doesn't want you!"
Just like that, I was assaulted. Pain blurred my vision, and blood ran down my legs.
The man panicked and released me, cursing as he fled.
I staggered to the ER alone.
The baby was gone.
I’d planned to tell Dorian on our third anniversary. But all that was left was a tray of blood and tissue.
My colleague on duty, Maren Sloane, looked at me, hesitant.
"Dr. Wren, General Whitlock pressured the hospital to take harsh action against you. Your military medical license is being revoked, and you have to pay back over $150,000 for your training."
I closed my eyes, a metallic taste filling my throat.
Maren choked up. "How could he do this? He almost got disciplined just to get you transferred here. And during the last rescue, he ran straight into danger to save you.
"He loved you so much. Why would he break your hand, destroy your future—all for his adopted sister?"
Yeah. Why?
