I Quit The CEO Went Mad Chapter 01

People in our circle all said that I was Jackson Fletcher's well-trained lapdog.
I handled his company's crises, showed up in his room whenever he booty-called, and even smiled while picking out a welcome gift for his first love, who had just returned from abroad.
Jackson was totally pleased.
He would casually stroke the back of my neck, as if teasing a pet, and say, "Charlotte, as long as you stay this obedient, you'll be my wife sooner or later."
Later, I got pregnant.
On the day I got the ultrasound report, I went to his office—only to overhear him speaking with Alyssa Jenkins, his first love. "Marry her? I only keep her around because she's useful. How could an orphan with no background ever be worthy of being my wife?"
I didn't cry or make a scene; I simply turned around and fed the ultrasound report into the shredder.
A month later, Jackson went crazy searching for me all over the world.
Meanwhile, I did exactly what he had taught me in the vanity fair—settle accounts, cut my losses, and never look back.

The day I found out I was pregnant happened to be the celebration dinner for Jackson's acquisition of the Horizon Group.
As his chief PR director and secret lover, I wore a perfectly tailored black evening gown and held a glass of champagne as I moved through the crowd, deflecting probing questions and unwanted toasts on his behalf.
Late into the night, the guests finally dispersed.
Jackson loosened his tie and sat on the leather couch on the top deck of the yacht, an unlit cigar resting between his fingers.
A few scions who were close to him lingered, gathered together in casual conversation.
"Jack, Charlotte was the biggest contributor to this acquisition. She completely controlled the media narrative."
Someone teased, "She's capable, beautiful, and she's been with you for five years. Aren't you going to give her a proper title?"
I was standing by the bar, preparing a hangover remedy for him, when my hands paused at those words.
He didn't turn around, only letting out a soft scoff that sounded especially cold in the empty cabin.
"A title? Everything she has now came from me. Isn't that enough?"
Someone else chimed in, "That's not what I mean. I'm talking about marriage. Isn't your father always pushing for it?"
Jackson finally lit the cigar, the pale smoke blurring his sharp, handsome profile.
"Marriage is an exchange of resources between two families. What does Charlotte have?"
His tone remained flat, as if he were discussing an object. "She's obedient and competent at work, but that's all. Marrying an obedient secretary as a trophy wife? I don't have time for that."
"Geez. Aren't you worried she'd be heartbroken when she heard you say that?"
"Heartbroken?" Jackson echoed, as if amused, then turned to glance at me.
Our eyes met, and I immediately gave him a perfect, docile smile before carrying the glass over.
"Mr. Fletcher, you've had too much to drink. This will help you sober up."
Jackson took the glass but didn't drink it. Instead, he wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me into his lap, even pinching my earlobe with deliberate intimacy in front of everyone.
Then he raised an eyebrow at his friends. "See? She won't be heartbroken. She knows exactly what she's worth. She understands full well that without me, she's nothing. Right, Lottie?"
I leaned obediently against him, suppressing the nausea churning in my stomach as I replied softly, "Yes. You're absolutely right, Mr. Fletcher."
Snicker filled the room.
"Mr. Fletcher, you sure know how to tame a girl."
"She's so obedient. No wonder you don't want to replace her."
Jackson clearly relished that sense of absolute control.
He lowered his head and kissed the corner of my lips as if granting a reward, the scent of tobacco brushing against my cheek.
"Tonight, we're going to the villa at Beverly Hills. Drive yourself and follow behind."
I lowered my gaze, hiding the despair in my eyes.
"Understood, Mr. Fletcher."
In my pocket, the crumpled ultrasound report stated that I was six weeks pregnant.
The doctor had told me my uterine lining was thin, and if I lost this baby, it might be very difficult for me to conceive again.
I had planned to tell him about it tonight.
After all, even if we didn't get married, it was still a life.
Now, I no longer felt the need.
