Wrong Place In His Heart Chapter 01

"I've made up my mind. I'll marry the Harrington family's comatose heir."
Victoria Sterling leaned against the doorframe of the Sterling's mansion, a mocking curve playing on her red lips.
The cigar in Richard Sterling's hand nearly dropped onto the priceless Persian rug. He jerked upright from his leather chair, the wrinkles around his eyes smoothing out: "Vicky, you've figured it out?
That's wonderful!
The Harrington family is pressing hard; you'll have to marry into Lunaton within half a month.
Whatever style of wedding dress you like, Dad will have someone order it for you..."
"Is that it?"
Victoria sneered. "I'm marrying in place of your beloved illegitimate daughter, and you're not going to show some appreciation?"
The temperature in the living room plummeted, and Richard's face darkened: "Watch your tone!
What illegitimate daughter? That's your sister."
"Only someone born to the same mother counts as a sister."
She chuckled lightly, ice forming in her eyes. "She's the product of your affair. I will never acknowledge her in this lifetime."
The veins on Richard's forehead bulged, but he forcefully suppressed his anger before lashing out.
He took a deep breath, the cigar ash falling in a flurry: "What do you want?"
"Ten billion."
Her red lips parted slightly. "Also, after I get married, transfer Alexander Jones to protect your precious illegitimate daughter."
Richard's expression froze.
He stared at his daughter as if looking at a madwoman: "Are you crazy?
Ten billion will drain all my liquid assets!
And Alexander, isn't he your favorite bodyguard?
You used to always make a fuss about marrying him, and now you're getting married without taking him along?!"
"Just tell me if you agree or not."
Victoria grew impatient and turned to leave.
"Fine!"
Richard slammed the table and stood up. "The day you go to Lunaton to get married, I'll have these two things sorted immediately."
He had no mind to dig deeper; he just wanted to get this matter settled quickly.
Back then, the only son of the Harrington family was in his prime, and he had preemptively arranged a marriage between the two families, originally planning to marry Lily Sterling off to him in the future as a good match for his youngest daughter.
Who knew an accident would turn the only son of the Harrington family into a vegetable.
He couldn't bear to see Lily suffer, which was when he remembered that Victoria was also his daughter...
With her back to him, she waved a hand dismissively. Her high heels clicked against the marble floor, the sound as crisp as a slap to the face.
Just as she grasped the doorknob, Richard's voice came from behind again: "I can understand you wanting money, but isn't Alexander your favorite?
How can you bear to give him to Lily?"
Victoria's fingers stiffened.
She didn't look back, but her eyes suddenly burned.
That name was like a thorn, piercing ruthlessly into the softest part of her heart.
She pushed the door open forcefully, shutting Richard and that question behind her.
By the time she returned to the villa, it was already late at night.
Victoria walked upstairs in her high heels, but as she passed Alexander's room, she heard suppressed panting coming from inside.
The door wasn't fully closed. She raised her eyes and looked in, catching an incredibly clear view of the scene inside—
Alexander was half-leaning against the headboard, a photograph pinched between his long fingers, while his other hand worked beneath him.
His eyes were closed, his Adam's apple bobbing, and a deep, sexy voice spilled from his lips: "Lily... baby... so good..."
That was a photo of Lily.
Taken at her birthday banquet last year, she was wearing a white dress, smiling with pure innocence.
Victoria's nails dug deep crescent marks into the strap of her Hermès bag, finally answering Richard's question in her heart.
Because he, just like you, only likes Lily.
This answer churned in her heart, burning her insides with an agonizing pain.
Three years ago, the first time she saw Alexander was on the day she was selecting a bodyguard.
Among a crowd of tall and burly bodyguards, her eyes locked onto him at first glance.
The reason was simple, he was absurdly handsome.
Standing at 188 centimeters, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, his features were sharp, especially those pitch-black eyes, as cold as if they had been tempered in ice.
Victoria was known in their circle as a little vixen. She originally just wanted to tease him for fun, but over the past three years— she would intentionally get drunk and fall into his arms, but he would grab the back of her neck with one hand and place her back on the sofa like picking up a cat; she would knock on his door in the middle of the night wearing a slip nightgown, and he would simply wrap her entirely in his suit jacket, respectfully escorting her back to her room; even when she deliberately pretended to drown in the pool, he jumped in to save her without so much as touching her waist; no matter how she flirted, he remained completely immune to her charms, always restrained and polite, calling her "Miss Victoria," yet she ended up falling for him anyway.
She didn't even know how her heart had been moved.
Perhaps it was because, ever since her mother died, she had been living far too lonely a life.
When she was seven, Richard had an affair and brought back an illegitimate daughter.
The illegitimate daughter was named Lily, only three months younger than her. It turned out that in his ten years of marriage, he had been cheating for nine of them.
On that day, the family she thought was happy and peaceful was completely shattered.
At that time, her mother Eleanor Sterling was still pregnant with Richard's second child, nine months along and only days away from giving birth.
Eleanor was madly in love with Richard. She questioned him hysterically, crying until she nearly passed out. That night, the shock triggered premature labor. After being rushed to the hospital, she didn't even make it to the operating room before both she and the baby died.
Ever since then, Victoria hated Richard to the core, and she hated Lily just as much.
She moved out of the Sterling's mansion, going to school alone, eating alone, and growing up alone, until she became so beautiful that too many playboys in their circle started harassing her, which finally gave her the idea of finding a bodyguard.
Alexander was her first bodyguard.
From then on, she was no longer alone; whatever she did, Alexander was there to accompany her.
She went from admiring him, to teasing him, and finally to falling for him, but for three years, over a thousand days and nights, he hadn't so much as batted an eyelash for her.
She thought he was naturally cold-hearted, until that day, when she caught him masturbating to a photo of Lily, and then watched helplessly as he finished and answered a phone call—
"Mr. Jones, how much longer are you going to play this bodyguard game?
You are the golden child of Olismond, what kind of woman can't you have?
If you fell in love with Lily at first sight, why not just take her by force? Why play the innocent romantic, running to her sister to act as a bodyguard just so you can see her all the time?"
Alexander looked indifferent: "I've looked into it. Lily is an illegitimate daughter who had a hard life growing up and lacks a sense of security. Pursuing her recklessly would scare her; I want to take it slow."
"Fine, how did the Jones family produce such a hopeless romantic like you? I thought with Miss Victoria flirting with you every day, you'd be tempted. Let me tell you, she's a notorious little vixen in our circle. The line of guys crushing on her could stretch all the way to France..."
Alexander seemed to chuckle, but the words that followed plunged her straight into an icy abyss.
"Is that so?
I'm not interested. She can't even compare to a single strand of Lily's hair."
Every single word was like a knife, stabbing viciously into Victoria's heart!
At that moment, she stopped liking Alexander altogether.
Who knew how long it had been going on inside. For some reason, Alexander was taking unusually long to find his release today.
Watching this, she curled her lips into a cold smirk and violently pushed the door open—
