Too Late To Claim Me Again Chapter 01

I was busy with work.
Lucas was lounging on the bed with his back to me, playing on his phone, his fluffy red tail swishing back and forth.
Suddenly, his tail stiffened. He scrambled up from the bed and sneaked a quick glance at me.
His eyes were brimming with panic.
I pushed up my glasses.
"What happened?"
Lucas froze and waved his hands frantically. "N-Nothing, nothing at all!"
I raised an eyebrow but didn't press further.
This little fox always had plenty of secrets and thoughts he preferred to keep from me. I respected his boundaries and was used to not prying.
Lucas fidgeted restlessly, his lips pressed into a tight line, his gaze glued to his phone screen.
The glaring words "Transaction Successful" were still prominently displayed.
They wouldn't disappear until he clicked to confirm.
...But who on earth had bought his master?
He had made this awful master sound so despicable—how could any werebeast still buy her in a heartbeat!
Lucas was both anxious and furious, completely at a loss for what to do.
After racking his brain, he could only turn to his sole werewolf friend for advice.
To his surprise, Matthew's reaction was completely indifferent: [If she's sold, she's sold. Didn't you say you disliked her and didn't want her anymore?]
[Perfect timing. Let a werebeast who can actually tolerate her as a master take over.]
[As for you, just go find the qualified master of your dreams.]
[Everyone wins.]
Lucas let out a frustrated groan, conflictedly closed the chat box, and buried himself under the covers in silence.
Five minutes later, his face flushed bright red.
He secretly sent a message to Clara's older sister:
[Um, would you be willing to take in another werebeast?]
Meanwhile.
With a soft chime, my inbox suddenly received an email from the werebeast dark web.
Just as I was about to click it open, dozens of messages rapidly popped up on my computer screen.
They were screenshots.
At a single glance, I spotted my photo in one of the screenshots.
My breath hitched.
In the photo, I was sitting in front of the computer, wearing silver-framed glasses and loubaikar. My black hair cascaded over my shoulders, and my face was softly illuminated by the glow of the screen.
This photo... had been taken just tonight.
And judging by the angle, it could only have been taken by Lucas.
I slowly read through every single screenshot, then exited the window, my face completely expressionless.
I paused for a moment before clicking into the email.
The message inside was very brief.
—Dear human lady, as the werebeast has sold you out, the contract between you and your werefox has been forcibly terminated by our system.
—The contact information and basic details of your new werebeast are attached. In three days, the new werebeast will visit your home to sign a new contract with you.
I didn't expect Lucas to be so dissatisfied with me.
Clicking on the screenshots again, I read through Lucas's complaints and disgust toward me line by line.
I felt almost entirely bewildered.
Lucas was a companion werebeast I had bought for a hefty price from the premium werebeast market.
He was beautiful and arrogant, yet vibrant and full of life.
I was used to being alone and had never raised any living creature before.
Raising a werebeast made me extra careful. I strictly followed the care manual provided by the seller, regulating his sleep schedule, protein and fiber intake, and daily exercise.
At first, Lucas seemed reluctant, but his behavior was quite obedient.
When did he start picking faults with everything?
I took off my glasses and rubbed the bridge of my nose, nursing a headache.
Opening my eyes again, my gaze fell on what he said:
[She also has an older sister!
By comparison, she's even worse!]
Then I suddenly remembered when my half-sister, Victoria, paid a sudden visit,
Lucas's eyes had suddenly lit up, and his tail wagged much harder than usual.
Victoria loved wearing bright colors and dressing extravagantly, and she loved nothing more than to judge and pick on me.
"Dressing so plainly all day, people who don't know better would think you're joining a monastery. And that potion smell on you fills the whole room—can your werebeast even stand it?"
Clicking her sky-high stilettos, she walked into the kitchen and let out another gasp.
"Oh my god, what are you feeding your little fox?
Minced meat?
That's disgusting, sister. You're raising a werebeast, not a wild beast!
How can he eat raw meat?"
I didn't say a word, watching her circle my house like she was patrolling her territory, finally stopping in front of me.
"Not talking again?
You're still so boring. No wonder no one likes you, neither at home nor outside."
She glanced sideways at Lucas, who was staring blankly at her, and laughed again:
"Look at this. The only one willing to keep you company is someone you bought with money."
"Little fox, do you want to come play at my house?
"My place~ is much more fun than here."
I finally spoke, my voice cold: "Don't lead the kid astray."
Later, Lucas would always ask me about Victoria, both overtly and covertly.
I thought he was just curious and didn't think much of it.
Looking back now, he clearly favored Victoria.
Even his endless criticisms of me, every single word, must have been learned from Victoria that day.
