Betrayed On The Eve Of Our Engagement Chapter 01
Camille's POV
On the day Theodore Lambert got engaged, he deliberately arranged for a few street punks to hassle me. By the time I finished giving my statement at the police station, it was already dark.
When I arrived at his door, I heard voices from inside—someone asking where I had gone.
Theodore smirked. "I was worried she'd show up and make a scene, so I made sure she spent the day at the police station. By the time she got back, everything was already a done deal."
I stood outside, shaking my head with a bitter smile.
Then I blocked Theodore on every possible platform and boarded a flight overseas.
That same night, I heard that Theodore—always so composed—completely lost control when he couldn't find me.
His eyes were bloodshot as he muttered, "She's just throwing a tantrum because she's jealous. Once she cools off, she'll come back. She will."
He had no idea that I wasn't running off in a fit of anger—I was truly done with him.

By the time I finished giving my statement at the police station, night had already fallen.
Today, Theodore was getting engaged, and I had been so shaken that I clipped another car while turning a corner.
The other driver clearly intended to drag things out, so it took me a long time to resolve everything.
Theodore didn't answer a single one of my calls.
Meanwhile, my Instagram feed was flooded with photos of him and his fiancée—each image stabbing into my eyes like a blade.
I was furious.
All the humiliation and anger I had bottled up throughout the day needed an outlet, so I took a cab straight to his place.
The door was ajar, and loud voices spilled out from inside.
Sometimes Theodore brought friends over to drink or watch games.
I hadn't meant to eavesdrop—but the moment I heard them mention me, I froze.
Third person's POV
"Honestly, we all thought you'd end up with Camille. You two grew up together, and she's drop-dead gorgeous. But man, that temper of hers is no joke," Connor Townsend exclaimed.
"She's been spoiled rotten, always throwing tantrums like a child. I wonder when she'll finally grow out of it."
Theodore lounged deep into the couch, lowering his gaze to glance at the time on his wristwatch. A trace of irritation creased his handsome features.
Logically, she should have shown up by now.
She would definitely come crying and make a scene. Just thinking about it gave him a headache.
"Seriously, this is weird. You got engaged to Kay, and Camille didn't tear the place apart? We haven't seen her once all day. Where'd she go?" Connor asked.
Theodore smiled. "I was worried she'd come cause trouble, so I made sure she spent the day at the police station. By the time she got back, everything was already a done deal."
"That's brilliant. If anybody can handle Camille, it's you," Owen Flanagan said admiringly.
Connor chimed in, "Theo, what if this engagement really breaks her heart and she just leaves for good?"
Theodore pictured her tear-streaked face, irritation flickering in his chest.
Then he gave a cold snort and said with nonchalant indifference, "That'd be the best thing that could happen."
Camille's POV
The best thing that could happen. That was what my seven years of devotion had earned me.
I withdrew my hand from the doorknob and turned away.
It was early winter, and the cold hadn't fully settled in yet.
But I felt frozen, down to my bones.
I had always believed we would end up getting married.
Instead, to get engaged to someone else, he set me up and had me stuck in a police station.
How pathetic did he think I was that he dared to humiliate me like that again and again?
Rain began to fall. The forecast said the temperature would drop after midnight, and it might snow.
When it snowed in Boston, it never seemed to stop.
I used to dread winter. Theodore would pull his coat open and wrap me completely inside it, and there was always a blanket waiting for me in his car.
Now it seemed those moments of happiness I had once taken for love had never been enough to carry us to the end.
The rain came down harder. Damp strands of hair clung to my forehead, and even my steps started to falter.
I shook my head and let out a bitter laugh.
How had my life turned into this?
In that instant, the fire that once burned inside me went out completely.
All those arguments, all those desperate questions about whether he loved me, felt like a cruel joke.
I pulled my half-soaked coat tighter around myself as a single thought slowly took root.
I was going somewhere warm.
Somewhere without winter. Without snow.
And most importantly, without Theodore.
