No Mercy As I Drown Chapter 01
When I was close to my due date, my husband’s side chick took a fall in the water at a banquet. After someone pulled her out, she immediately accused me of shoving her.
To get back at his side chick, my husband threw me into a modified stainless steel tank. I begged him like crazy to let me go—for our kids’ sake.
But my husband just sneered: “Cut the crap with the kids—don’t pressure me! You’re due in a week—don’t think I don’t know that. With a heart that vicious, the kid you have ain’t gonna be any good either. Just stay in there and think about what you did. When you finally own up to your mistake, I’ll let you out!”
Five days later, when my husband brought his side chick home from a party, he yelled for me to come downstairs and wait on ’em like usual.
But little did he know, my body and our kids had already rotted so bad you couldn’t even recognize ’em.
“Mr. Wood, an hour passed already, and Madam’s completely quiet. Maybe we should let her out now,” the butler advised from the side.
Matthew Wood scowled: “I know Chloe Bennett better than anyone. She’s just faking it. A national swimmer—how could she be scared of water? Keep her locked up for one more day to teach her a lesson—so she learns who she can’t mess with.”
The butler tried to talk him out of it some more, but Matthew waved him off.
Staring at Matthew’s cold, unreasonable attitude, I—already a lost ghost—still couldn’t help but cry. I even wanted to yell at him and ask, “What the hell did I do wrong? Why do I have to go through this torture?”
“Matthew, I’m sorry… It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t taken your coat, if I hadn’t screamed for help and just let Chloe push me in, maybe you wouldn’t have lost some of your business guys, and Chloe wouldn’t be mad at you,” Lily Anderson wrapped her arms around him from behind.
Matthew turned around and hugged her back, coaxing her softly: “This has nothing to do with you. There were so many important partners at that banquet, and she actually pushed you into the water out of jealousy. It was a total embarrassment! Lily, you’re just too nice—letting that bitch walk all over you. I’ve got your back from now on—nobody’s gonna dare hurt you.”
Hearing Matthew’s promise, I suddenly laughed. Back then, Matthew used this exact same line to win me over. I never thought that in just three years, he’d say it to another woman.
A sharp, heavy pain twisted in my chest. Staring at him with hatred in my eyes, I watched Matthew carry Lily upstairs.
I’d already guessed what would happen next, but when I was about to see it happen, my heart still ached uncontrollably.
Matthew gently set Lily down on the big bed. Their eyes locked, and they got closer and closer.
Watching the two of them being intimate right in front of me, I wished I could grab something and throw it at ’em. But my hands just went right through everything, over and over. And their messy, heavy panting kept ringing in my ears. It cut right through my heart.
I don’t know how long it was, but I watched them numbly till they were done, then watched them go clean themselves up.
After Matthew got out of the shower, the first thing he did was text me: [Bring me a dress upstairs, and make three dishes and a soup. We’ll be down to eat in a minute.]
This time, no one replied.
Matthew’s face fell for a second, suddenly remembering he’d locked me in the tank.
His face softened a little just as Lily walked out in a bath towel, giving Matthew a seductive look: “Matthew, maybe you should let Chloe out. Even if she bullies me again, I won’t fight back.”
“Everyone’s right—Chloe’s the real wife, and I’m just someone who watches Matthew from the sidelines. Even if I never get to marry you, as long as I can stay by your side, I’ll be happy.”
