From Replacement To Heiress Chapter 01

"Dad, I'll do it," Theresa Evans said into the receiver. "I'll emigrate to France for the arranged marriage. Just set it up fast, before I change my mind."
Edmund Evans didn't miss a beat. "Good girl. Give me a month, tops."
Theresa wiped her tears and pocketed her phone.
Just an hour earlier, she'd been letting out soft moans under Cedric Montclair's kisses.
The Bentley's soundproof partition was up, completely walling them off from the driver.
Cedric pressed his mouth to hers, parting her lips.
Theresa loved him—deeply, entirely. She was so tied to him that the mere thought of walking away had always felt impossible.
Over their three years together, they'd had sex in almost every setting imaginable, and the back of his car was a regular spot.
Then, Cedric's phone went off.
Frowning at the interruption, he checked the screen and answered anyway.
Theresa caught a glimpse of the caller ID—a foreign name written in Georgian, a language hardly anyone understood.
Cedric cursed under his breath, "Calling at a time like this?!"
The caller laughed, "What? Are you in the middle of having sex right now?"
Cedric gripped Theresa's waist, a silent cue to keep quiet. "If you already know, then get to the point," he said, sounding relaxed but dismissive.
The caller's tone turned probing. "How much does this one actually look like Savannah?"
Cedric reached out, his thumb lightly stroking Theresa's cheek. "They share a strong resemblance."
The guy on the other end laughed, "Good for you, man! What exactly do you even like about this girl?"
Cedric pressed his lips to Theresa's neck. "She's innocent. Completely obedient and naive. She's untainted."
The caller's breathing grew heavy. Frowning in disgust, Cedric snapped, "Stop being gross. Tell me why you called, or I'm hanging up."
The guy spoke quickly, "Savannah is flying back tomorrow. She's moving her career back home."
Cedric went completely still, his own breathing suddenly picking up. "Is that true?"
"She wanted to keep it a secret, but I figured I'd tell you anyway. I'm a good friend, right? Your first love is coming back. Are you going to have any trouble ending things with her replacement?"
"I can just pay her to leave," Cedric said flatly.
He tossed the phone aside and went right back to kissing her.
With her head tilted back against the leather seat, Theresa spotted the phone on the floor mat. The call was still connected.
Cedric had absolutely no idea she spoke Georgian.
Her family ran a business in Georgia, and she had studied the language for over five years. She hadn't missed a single syllable.
Tears spilled down Theresa's cheeks, tracking backward into her hair.
She had devoted three years of her life to him, and to him, she was nothing but a compliant, easily discarded convenience.
The next morning brought bright sunshine and an unseasonably warm breeze.
Sunlight flooded the massive, modern three-story villa.
Cedric took his time coming down the stairs, lazily fastening the diamond buttons of his custom-tailored shirt.
As the second son of the Montclair family, he managed several entertainment and media divisions for the globally ranked Montclair Group.
Tall and lean, he carried himself with that effortless, untouchable arrogance unique to the ultra-wealthy.
Three years ago, during her freshman year of college, Theresa had been intensely drawn to him from day one.
He'd spotted her in the crowd, made his interest obvious, and immediately started pursuing her. She had kept her distance for three months before finally caving and agreeing to a date.
From that point on, she had built her entire universe around him, completely sidelining her own needs and interests.
But that was over now.
Theresa turned her head away, her face wiped of any emotion.
Cedric completely missed the shift. He cupped her face, kissed her hard, and said, "I've got a meeting at the office. Wait for me here, and I'll bring you dessert when I get back."
He turned and walked out the door, moving with a noticeable sense of urgency.
Theresa forced a sad smile. As soon as he was gone, she started packing.
She began by trashing all the matching couple's stuff they'd bought as symbols of their relationship—the mugs, keychains, scarves, T-shirts, and plush toys.
Scattered around the massive house, the items had barely made a footprint, but dragging them all together turned out to be a heavy chore. The sheer physical effort of it left her sweating.
She had just walked back in from throwing a box in the trash when an entertainment update flashed across the living room TV—the famous international actress, Savannah Lewis, was relocating her career back home.
Fans packed the airport terminal on the screen, their cheers and shouts echoing endlessly.
The woman stood tall with long, wavy hair and delicate features, looking flawless from every angle. When she smiled and waved at the cameras, the crowd shrieked in response.
As the shot panned across the broadcast, Theresa spotted a familiar silhouette standing in a corner of the terminal.
A WhatsApp notification chimed from the laptop.
Cedric rarely shut down his computer and had left his account logged in. Theresa walked over and clicked open the message thread.
