Für Elise Chapter 01

At twenty, Alexandra Navarro married Gabriel Spencer—her father's close friend and a man decades his junior.
Eight years older than she was, he had a reputation in their circle for being cold and ruthless—unyielding in business and keeping any woman at arm's length. Yet with her, he had been unbelievably gentle, treating her like royalty.
When she casually said, "That necklace looks nice," he had the million-dollar piece delivered to her the very next day.
When period cramps left her curled up in bed, he set aside multimillion-dollar deals just to make her hot chocolate and coax her into drinking it.
When desire took over, he'd grip her by the waist, voice rough as he called her baby, telling her she was so good he couldn't get enough of her.
Every social media profile he had bore the same name—"Für Elise."
Alexandra had always thought it was a tribute to the piece she had played on the piano the day they first met.
That belief lasted until the day she found an old photo album in his study.
Every photo inside was of the same girl, who looked strikingly similar to Alexandra. In one, she stood before a piano with a soft smile.
On the back were the words, "Für Elise, My Beloved Elise."

After learning the truth, Alexandra did only two things.
First, she went to the hospital and terminated her five-month pregnancy.
At five months, the baby had already begun kicking. Lying on the operating table, she clenched her teeth and didn't cry. Yet when the nurse asked if she wanted to see the baby, she shook her head, breaking down in silence.
Second, she drafted a divorce agreement.
Then, she called Gabriel.
He used to answer her calls instantly, his voice gentle as he asked, "Honey, what's wrong?"
However, this time, she called 23 times before he finally picked up.
Noise spilled through the line, followed by one of his friends teasing. "A first love just hits in a way nothing else does. The second Elise came back, Gabe left his pregnant wife at home without a second thought."
"Of course, he did. Alexandra is just a substitute. We all know how deeply he loved Elise back then. When they broke up, he nearly drank himself to death. He's never forgotten her, not once. He even married Alexandra just because she looked like Elise."
"That poor girl has no clue. She's all over Gabe every single day. I walked in on them kissing once—the way she clung to him...it honestly made my heart skip a beat. If it were me, I'd have forgotten Elise ages ago, with a soft, sweet girl like that around."
"Gabe might look cold, but he's a hopeless romantic. He's only ever loved Elise, and he always will. She just mentioned her feet hurt from wearing heels, and he carried her off to buy flats right away..."
Alexandra gripped her phone as silent tears streamed down her face.
At that moment, the line suddenly went quiet.
"Who picked up my phone?" Gabriel's voice rang out.
"What? No idea. I must've hit the button by mistake or something..."
Footsteps followed, and the background noise quickly faded.
When Gabriel spoke again, his voice carried that same gentle warmth that had once drawn her in. "Honey, what's wrong? Can't sleep because of the thunder?
"I'm at a business dinner right now. I'll come back later for you and the baby, okay?"
Alexandra took a deep breath. "I'm calling because I need you to sign the di—"
The words died in her throat as a woman whined in the background, "Gabe, my foot hurts..."
He fell silent for a moment, then said quickly, "Get some rest, honey. Don't wait up. I'll be back later."
The call ended.
Alexandra let out a quiet laugh. After wiping away her tears, she lifted her gaze toward the table.
Two "gifts" sat there, both meant for Gabriel.
One was the divorce agreement, and the other a gift box containing the aborted child.
He had to pay the price for his betrayal.
Alexandra might be young, but she wouldn't put up with being lied to.
She didn't keep liars and cheaters in her life.
She could love hard, but she could walk away even harder.
After sitting there for an unknown amount of time, she finally stood and placed the box containing the child into the refrigerator.
Just then, the front door opened.
"Honey, why aren't you asleep yet?" Gabriel stepped inside, slipping off his suit jacket, his tie hanging loosely around his neck. "What are you looking for in the fridge? Are you hungry?"
Alexandra didn't answer, only watched him quietly.
Her indifference clearly unsettled him. He pulled out a delicate takeout box from behind his back, his expression soft. "I went all over the city to find this. Haven't you been craving it lately?"
He laid out the pastries one by one—everything she had loved during her months of morning sickness.
Before, she would've thrown herself into his arms and kissed him.
But now, all she felt was irony.
"Why aren't you saying anything? Is the baby acting up again?"
As he spoke, his hand reached for her belly.
She stopped him and handed him a document. "Sign it."
He paused, about to look at it, when his phone rang.
Alexandra saw the caller ID. It was Elise Moreau.
Gabriel answered the call. Whatever he heard made his face stiffen instantly. He hung up and signed the document without looking at it.
Then, he grabbed his keys and turned to leave.
"Honey, I've got something urgent to handle. Go to bed early."
At the door, he added gently, "From now on, just buy whatever you want. No need to ask for my signature. We're married. What's mine is yours."
Alexandra tightened her grip on the signed divorce agreement and gave a faint smile.
"Gabriel, we won't be married much longer," she murmured.
