His Secret Love Was Never Me Chapter 01
Then the night before our wedding, I saw my fiance Vernon tattoo a girl right between her thighs.
The girl lay there half-naked, legs parted, their bodies hardly touched, just close enough to make the tension unbearable.
The girl’s eyes swam with desire. She wanted more.
Vernon was barely holding himself back, his voice hoarse as he stopped her.
"Jane, we can't..."
He said no, yet instead of relief, a heavy despair settled over me.
I saw what he was tattooing on Janette.
So she was never the one I should've been worried about!

Shaken by the charged, intimate tension in the room, I hurried away, unable to confront them.
Then, downstairs by the study, I overheard his friends talking.
"Three more days till Janette's tattoo is done, right?" one of them sighed. "That spot she's getting it... I wonder if Vern can keep it in his pants."
"He will. We all know who he really loved up in the Alaska Range these past four years."
"Hope so. He swore that if he touches Janette, the wedding with Dolores is off."
"Shh. Zip it. The wedding is tomorrow. Vern told us to keep our mouths shut around Dolores. He doesn't wanna break her heart."
I stood there, barefoot on the heated floor, but inside, I was freezing bit by bit.
So all Vernon's buddies were in on it.
I couldn't believe I'd wasted four years waiting for him—what a fool I'd been.
So, who had gotten to him?
Who really held his heart now?
I stood at the door for a long time, holding my breath, trying to catch any clue about who this other woman was.
But they never said another word about it.
Heartbroken, I dragged myself back home and cried my eyes out in the dark for hours.
Then my girls showed up downstairs, all hyped to do my makeup and get me in the wedding dress.
Hands shaking, I sent two texts.
One to the butler, Rodger Lewis, asking him to cancel the wedding and send fancy gifts to the guests with our apologies.
Second to Vernon.
We grew up together. Everyone said we were the perfect match, written in the stars.
Not anymore.
"Vernon, we're done."
Hitting send felt like it took everything out of me.
My girls were pounding on the door, worried sick, asking what was going on.
My phone was blowing up with Vernon's messages.
"Dolly, what's going on? Did I screw up somewhere?"
"Dolly, please, I'm sorry for whatever happened. We grew up together. We stood by each other when our parents died of illness. We survived years of being apart. It's been so hard to get to where we are today—please, don't leave me."
His messages flooded in nonstop.
I read every single one. I just couldn't bring myself to delete them or walk away.
A while later, Vernon busted through the door, eyes rimmed with red.
By then, I was pale and trembling, my breath caught in my throat from endless sobbing.
He pulled me into his arms, holding me like I was something fragile and precious.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart. I must've screwed up somewhere. I'll fix it, yeah?"
He was still wearing the same shirt from last night, stained with Janette's blood.
My heart flared with pain once more, but the storm inside had burned itself out. I was finally, chillingly, calm.
I slowly pushed him away, got up on shaky legs, and yanked open the curtains.
In the warm sunlight, I finally had the guts to ask, "Vernon, who do you actually love?"
