He Paid To Torture His Own Wife Chapter 01
Meredith's POV
The day after I told my husband about my stomach cancer diagnosis, I was kidnapped.
They took me to an isolated island and turned me into a human test subject.
My arms and legs were strapped to a cold metal table. I fought with all my might, screaming, "I'm Leonardo Clement's wife!"
The moment the words left my mouth, they forced a scalding liquid down my throat. Searing pain tore through my chest.
"Nice try. Mrs. Clement needs this medication to survive. A test subject like you has no right to even speak Mr. Clement's name.
"Keep making noise, and we'll cut out your tongue!"
The chemical destroyed my vocal cords. My throat burned so severely that I couldn't make another sound.
After what felt like an eternity, I managed to shove open the heavy metal door during a shift change. Down the hall, in the distance, I spotted Leonardo. I waved my arms frantically, forcing a raspy, broken whisper past my ruined throat, "Leo..."
Before I could get anywhere near him, a group of researchers in lab coats dashed over. A hand clamped hard over my mouth, and I was dragged back inside.
"How dare you try to run?! Mr. Clement gave strict orders to keep the trials running without interruption."
After that, they stopped holding back. They pumped my body full of a relentless, rotating cocktail of toxic experimental cancer drugs.
I was reduced to an object. By day, the researchers used me for cancer trials; by night, the men on the island used me as their sex toy.
Two weeks and countless drug tests later, they wheeled me out onto an auction stage.
Right there, in front of an audience, a doctor sliced my stomach open to showcase the results of their experiments.
I lay there bleeding out, hovering on the edge of death, while Leonardo clapped with obvious excitement.
"If you cure my wife, I'll invest another 40 million dollars into this lab."
He had no idea that my cancer had already metastasized throughout my entire body.
He was celebrating his success at the direct cost of my life.

A profound despair washed over me. I had been so close to reaching Leonardo.
Before I could even process why he was on the island, someone grabbed a tight fistful of my hair.
Philip Baldwin, a researcher with glasses, started cursing me.
"With terminal cancer, your life is worthless. You should be grateful you get to test drugs for Mrs. Clement. Try to run again, and I'll break your legs!"
As soon as he dragged me back into the lab, he kicked me hard in the stomach.
My head slammed against the sharp corner of a metal table. The impact sent a blinding pain through my skull, and my vision temporarily went black.
I lay motionless on the floor for a long time. Eventually, another heavier-set researcher spoke up, his voice laced with worry.
"You hit her too hard. If you kill her, we won't be able to explain it to Mr. Clement.
"Mrs. Clement loves charity, and Mr. Clement only started doing good deeds for her sake. If she hadn't been diagnosed with stomach cancer, he never would have kidnapped a sick patient for these trials."
The words stomach cancer made the memories come crashing back.
When I received my diagnosis, I had been shocked and panicked. I'd cried in Leonardo's arms, telling him my final wishes.
He had held me close, his eyes wet with tears. "Meri, don't worry. I'll develop a cure for your cancer as quickly as possible. I'll keep you safe for the rest of your life."
Clinging to that promise, I strained my shredded vocal cords. "I am... Leonardo's wif—"
Before I could finish, Philip yanked me up and slammed me back onto the cold table.
"Still talking nonsense," he muttered.
"If the chemicals couldn't shut you up, maybe an injection of our newest toxin will!"
He pulled out a syringe and drove the needle deep into my arm.
As the newly extracted compound surged through my bloodstream, the pain was so intense that I convulsed right off the table. I hit the floor, unable to stop myself from letting out silent, broken cries of agony.
Leonardo had promised me my treatment would be painless.
Yet now, the chemical was eating deep into my tissues. Drenched in a cold sweat, I endured an excruciating level of pain.
Through the blur, I spotted a scalpel nearby. I grabbed the handle, ready to end my own life.
"Put that down!" Philip yelled, sudden panic cracking his voice. "We're only using you for trials; we aren't going to kill you."
He glanced out the window just as Leonardo walked past, then looked back and noticed the desperate hope on my face.
"You want to see Mr. Clement, right?" he offered quickly. "Put the knife down, and I'll bring him to you."
I kept my grip on the handle. Philip and the other researcher backed out into the hallway. A moment later, I heard Leonardo's voice drifting through the door, but it only deepened my pain and despair.
"You need me to handle a minor issue like this?" he snapped. "Do I pay you to be completely useless?"
I fought through the pain, dragging myself toward the door as tears streamed down my face.
"If he just sees me," I thought, "maybe he can save me."
But in the next moment, a familiar silhouette passed by the window.
"Leo, don't be mad," a woman's voice pleaded. "You can't expect a drug to be developed overnight.
"Meredith's condition is only in the early stages. She has plenty of time."
Leonardo was quiet for a beat before his voice cut through, ice-cold. "I don't care how you do it. I want results in three days. I don't want to make her wait that long."
Their voices faded down the hall. "Leo, stay in my room this time," the woman murmured. "I missed you."
