Too Late To Say I Love You Chapter 01
Matthew Macmillan was a famous billionaire in Seattle. He was young, brilliant, and handsome enough to make any woman lose her mind.
I stayed with him for seven years.
Now, he was getting married.
On our last night, he was like a mad dog. He was wild, acting like he wanted to break me.
When I woke up, he looked satisfied. He slid a five-carat diamond ring onto my finger. His voice was deep and calm.
"From now on, come here every night. Same as usual."
My body went stiff. Matthew raised an eyebrow and let out a cold laugh.
"Did you really think I couldn't let you go? Are you that obsessed with me?"
He leaned in, his eyes cold. "My fiancée gets jealous easily. I don't want her to find out about us."
"I set up a blind date for you tonight. Just go and get it over with, okay?"
He had no idea. The moment I walked out that door, I didn't go to any date. I got on a plane to Boston.
I was leaving Seattle for good. I was never coming back.
…
The moment he finished speaking, I felt like I had been slapped in public. My face burned with shame.
"Why that face? Did you actually fall in love with me?"
He leaned back against the headboard, looking at me with a cold, bored smile.
I looked up and saw red scratch marks on his back. They were fresh from our night together.
From eighteen to twenty-four. I had stayed with Matthew for seven long years.
In the beginning, his driver would pick me up from the University of Washington every other day.
Later on, I spent almost all my time living in his house.
From his mansion on Queen Anne Hill, we could see the entire night view of the Seattle skyline.
I got an orange cat and named it Potato.
He was always busy, but he still took me to buy toys for the cat. When I was sick, he even made me soup.
We acted just like a real couple.
I looked down at the five-carat diamond ring on my finger. Matthew leaned down and kissed me. His voice was deep.
"You always wanted this ring, right? Think of it as a breakup gift. "
"From now on, you're just my employee. "
"Elisabeth is a famous actress, and you’re a top news anchor in Seattle. Don't get messy and try to hurt her."
"I protect the people who belong to me."
His words were a warning.
My eyes stung with tears, but I forced a smile.
I was about to speak, but my stomach turned. I ran straight into the bathroom.
"Deirdre"
Matthew followed me. He stared coldly at my stomach.
"The Macmillan family doesn't want a mistake. You’ve been with me for years. You know what happens if you get pregnant without my permission. "
I froze and quickly moved my hand away from my stomach. I tried to act calm.
"I didn't sleep well. It’s just a cold."
He frowned, turned around, and walked out.
I finally let out a breath.
Yesterday, the doctor told me I was pregnant. It happened two months ago on his birthday. He said he didn't want to use protection that night.
He was so wild that night that I was too tired to think. I forgot to take my pill. I was going to tell him today.
Now, there was no point.
Like he said, his family didn't want a mistake.
I knew how his family worked.
Six years ago, his brother’s mistress got pregnant. After the baby was born, both the mother and child disappeared.
Someone sent me photos of the scene. I only looked once, and I had nightmares for a month.
I calmed down and took the ultrasound picture from my bag.
I touched the little black dot, then crumbled the paper and threw it into the trash.
