15 Days Before I Left Him Chapter 01

A month before our wedding, my fiancé said his first love was dying. He wanted to give her a child.
I refused. Then I found out—she was already pregnant. He had done it behind my back.
So I canceled the wedding. On the day I was supposed to marry him, before he realized what he had lost, I disappeared from his life.
For good.

"I've explained this to you countless times. Dorie has cancer. She only has a year left. Her biggest wish is to have a child for her family. She saved my life back then. I have to help her make this happen!"
Genevieve had heard the same thing hundreds of times over the past month.
The first time Anthony made the request, she rejected it without hesitation.
But he didn't give up. He brought it up almost every day.
He'd started tentatively asking for her permission; now he was picking fights with her, as though he was perfectly justified and she was the one at fault for not giving in.
And yet, who in their right mind would repay someone who saved his life by fathering her child?
A month of arguing had left Genevieve physically and emotionally drained. She no longer had the strength to talk him out of it.
She looked at the man she'd loved for five years and asked in a trembling voice, "Anton, we're getting married next month. And now you want to have a child with another woman. What do you take me for?"
It was the first time Anthony had seen Genevieve so defeated, as if a heavy weight were pressing on her from all sides.
His expression softened slightly.
"Evie, I know this is hard to accept. But I'm the only one who can help Dorie. I can't just watch her die with regrets.
"Besides, it's just artificial insemination. Nothing's going to happen between us.
"Since you love me, you can understand this, right?"
Genevieve's heart kept sinking as she listened.
She understood now—he had already made up his mind. No matter what, he would have a child with Dorothy.
Genevieve's opinion didn't matter.
Anthony was about to continue when his phone rang.
He glanced at the screen and stepped out onto the balcony.
Genevieve watched his back and let out a bitter smile.
She and Anthony had grown up together. They were in the same class in elementary school and even went to the same university.
She had liked him since childhood and stayed quietly by his side for years, but he never returned her feelings.
It wasn't until graduation that he finally noticed her devotion and agreed to date her.
They'd known each other for more than twenty years before becoming a couple; in theory, that should have made them each other's closest, most trusted companion.
In five years together, Genevieve had never touched Anthony's phone. He always took calls out of her earshot.
Once, while he was resting in bed with a high fever, his phone kept lighting up with messages.
Worried he might be disturbed, she decided to silence it.
The moment her finger touched the phone, he opened his eyes. When he saw what she was doing, he immediately accused her, without even asking.
He wouldn't listen, no matter how she explained.
That night, Genevieve curled up alone on the couch and stayed there until morning.
She put it down to his guarded nature and kept believing that, one day, she would be able to make her way into his heart.
But five years passed, and nothing changed.
Now he even wanted to have a child with another woman, without even considering how she would feel as his fiancée.
When Anthony came back in, his face was filled with excitement. He snatched up his coat, pulling it on as he made for the door.
"I need to go out for a bit. Think it over."
Genevieve listened to his hurried footsteps fade away. Her heart felt completely numb.
The only person who could make him this anxious had to be Dorothy.
Sure enough, not long after, Dorothy sent Genevieve a photo.
When Genevieve zoomed in on the image and saw what it showed, her legs nearly buckled beneath her.
