My Warmest Body Chapter 01
I was brutally torn apart by my boyfriend, Jason Watts, and the woman who destroyed us, Lara Hadfield.
The agony was unspeakable. I felt my bones snap and my flesh rip as they fed me to the monsters to save themselves, their cold laughter the last thing I heard.
Then, I opened my eyes by a dark, flowing river. Charon, the Ferryman of the Styx, stood before me.
"You were meant to be a billionaire, a savior to this world," he rasped. "I am giving you a second chance to fulfill your destiny."
I took the enchanted pouch from his skeletal hand and closed my eyes.
"Go to hell, you bastards!"
The two murderers lunged at me again, their faces twisted with greed.
But this time, everything was different.
"I wasn't alone. "
I had the King of the Walking Dead standing right by my side.
....
I expected to wake up before the outbreak. But staring at the ruins, I realized I was too late.
All those revenge novels I’d read were useless now. Real life didn’t follow a script.
I walked and stopped, eventually arriving at a familiar place.
Through the window, I saw Lara Hadfield and Jason Watts arguing over the beef in front of them.
"I haven't had fresh blood in two days."
Zombie Lara blinked her eyes, not shedding a single tear.
"Lara, baby, I have to eat my fill if I'm going to hunt more people for you, don't I?"
Jason stroked Lara with his scar-covered hands.
It was the exact same old trick.
The same fake affection.
"Amber Henderson, when I make money, I'll buy you a big house."
I spat at the glass, disgusted by the memory.
Suddenly, the ground around me began to shake.
More zombies slowly gathered around me.
Looking at their hideous faces, I couldn't help but shiver.
I hadn't seen this many zombies even in my past life.
However, they surprisingly didn't bite me.
"Boss, why don't you just bite her?"
A lackey in the zombie horde asked.
"We can't bite her."
The zombie right in the middle spoke up.
I looked at him, completely mesmerized.
After being hurted by a man like Jason, even a monster looked good to me.
Although his face was cracked, it was only in one spot on his cheek.
It looked like a scar he had before turning into a zombie.
Meanwhile, the two people inside the house heard the commotion and came out.
Seeing it was me, Lara immediately lunged over.
Similarly, Jason still failed to stop her.
But this time, the lead zombie stepped between us.
"Stay back," he growled at her.
He growled at Lara with a cold tone.
"Joy, look at him yelling at me."
Lara instantly went soft, acting coy with Jason.
"What do you want?"
Jason puffed himself up, pretending to be tough.
His fragile ego was a perfect match for her fake-innocent act.
But his bravado only lasted for a second.
The surrounding zombies all turned to Jason, glaring at him.
He knew when to back down, shooting me a vicious glare before pushing Lara back into the house.
I laughed out loud, mocking: "Lara, acting cute doesn't always work. Your man is just a loser."
With the king of the dead at my back, I couldn't help but talk a little trash.
Even though I had no idea why he was helping me.
Still, seeing them get put in their place made me happy.
The lead zombie stared at me, the corners of his mouth turning up slightly.
Was he smiling?
"Thanks, big guy. Not eating me was a very sensible choice."
I patted his shoulder.
After all, I was someone with a cheat code.
I turned to leave, only to realize I didn't know where to go.
I didn't even have a home anymore.
An idea popped into my head, and I walked toward the zombie leader.
"Hey, big guy. Got room for one more?"
He froze, then rasped a single word.
"Always."
