Too Late To Remember Me Chapter 01

My cheated husband took a brutal blow to the head, and everything after he was nineteen vanished from his mind.
He forgot all the hatred and grudges between us, turning back into the young man who would have given his life for me.
But it was too late.
I was done with him, regardless of whether he still loved me.
I rushed from home to the hospital, only to find Aaron—who had mastered hiding his emotions for years—raging, tearing apart half the hospital room, glaring at everyone around him like a caged beast.
But the moment I stepped inside, the ferocious beast became docile, pushing his head into my arms with pitiful effort.
"Elly, what took you so long? Why does everyone say it's been ten years? The injury is killing me. Only your kiss can fix it."
Aaron's sudden warmth left me dazed for a moment. In the past ten years, we'd never touched each other—except when we were stabbing knives into each other. If he so much as brushed against me, he'd push me aside and scrub himself in the shower for an hour.
"If I smell like you, Callie will get angry," he'd said.
I soon snapped out of it. After hesitating for a while, I pushed Aaron away, and my questioning gaze fell on the doctor.
The doctor looked embarrassed, stumbling over his words.
"Mr. Wallace... took a blow to the head while protecting Ms. Minton. The blood clot is pressing on his nerves, trapping his mind in a past from ten years ago."
Aaron looked at me piteously, fingers still clutching my shirt. The intense trust and love in his eyes left me sad and uneasy.
The nineteen-year-old Aaron loved me even more than I loved myself.
When I was eighteen, Dad cheated, and Mom died because of it. On my birthday, I was sent to the bed of Boston's most powerful man.
I sobbed and screamed myself hoarse, struggled desperately, but couldn't stop his hands from roaming over me.
When all hope was gone, Aaron came, wielding a rusty machete. He saved me at the cost of a broken leg and three fractured ribs.
Holding his cooling body, I sold my blood to pay for his treatment. He survived, but with complications. Boston was rainy, and whenever the weather changed, his wounds ached, keeping him awake all night.
Whenever I saw him frown in pain, my eyes would redden, and he would comfort me with a smile.
"It's nothing. To have you worry over me like this—this pain is worth it."
But I couldn't forget what the 29-year-old Aaron had done to me. Just because I accidentally scratched Calista's arm, he carved out a chunk of flesh from my own, his eyes burning with murderous rage.
"Elara Ingram, I told you—touch Callie, and you'll pay the price!"
I'd cried until my voice broke, but it didn't soften him.
The searing pain in my flesh weighed on my heart, made it hard to breathe, so I avoided Aaron's gaze.
I calmed myself and asked the doctor.
"Will he ever get his memory back?"
"When the clot clears, he might recover his memory, or he might not... Mrs. Wallace, I know I shouldn't say this, but with Mr. Wallace's memory gone—and Ms. Minton forgotten—you could start over."
I shook my head.
A fresh start was impossible for Aaron and me. Calista wasn't the only problem—our son's life stood between us.
I asked the nurse to take care of Aaron and turned to leave. But after one step, I couldn't move.
I looked down and saw Aaron stubbornly clutching my shirt, his lips pressed tight, looking like he was about to cry.
"Elly, did I make you angry these past ten years? If I did something wrong, tell me, and I'll fix it, okay?
"Please, don't ignore me."
After ten years of hurling curses and wishing each other dead, I had forgotten that Aaron, at nineteen, would hide in the bathroom and quietly cry whenever I ignored him.
My throat tightened. I opened my mouth to speak, but suddenly, someone shoved me hard. I stumbled backward, crashing into the nightstand before regaining my balance.
Looking up, I saw Calista, trembling like a frightened rabbit.
She stood in front of Aaron, biting her lip before she spoke.
"Elly, blame me if you want. I insisted that Ronnie take me to the beach for the fireworks. I'm the reason his location got leaked and his enemies found him.
"I know you're angry that Ronnie missed your anniversary, but he got hurt protecting me. I won't let you hurt him anymore!"
