Caught By Two Alphas Chapter 01

After I found out I was the fated mate to a pair of werewolf brothers, I made it a habit to prepare two glasses of milk every night.
The older brother, Silas Burke, was aloof and distant, but he would always take the glass politely and murmur a quiet thank-you.
The younger one, Caleb Burke, was a total live wire with a hell of a temper. More often than not, he would smash the glass and snap at me.
I thought I was doing a great job—keeping things fair, balancing the scales perfectly between them.
Then one day, my best friend caught me preparing the tray and hesitated before suggesting, "Don't you think being 'fair' to a jerk is actually just being unfair to the guy who's actually decent to you?"
I mulled it over the entire day and finally realized—she was right.

That night, I walked out of the kitchen with only one glass of milk.
Silas was the first to notice the change.
He didn't say anything, though. He just took the glass and thanked me as usual.
Caleb was sprawled across the sofa, idly playing on his PS5.
He didn't even glance up until I stood to say good night and head toward my bedroom.
"Hey," he called out, finally clocking the missing glass. "Did we run out of milk? Or are you so broke you can only afford one glass now?"
Compared to Silas's silence and indifference, Caleb was loud, jagged, and aggressive.
He tossed his controller aside, his eyes narrowing, his words harsh as always. "If you're not using your eyes, donate them to science. Can't you see I'm sitting right here?"
He had never spoken to me gently.
Any urge I had to explain myself vanished. My smile faded as I replied curtly, "No."
"No? Then why'd you only bring one glass? What—are you trying to provoke me?"
Provoke him?
My thoughts drifted back to a few nights earlier.
That evening, both of them had been called out on an emergency pack mission and didn't return until nearly 1 AM.
I had stayed up waiting for them, but exhaustion eventually pulled me into a light sleep on the sofa.
The sound of the front door jolted me awake.
I hurried to heat up the dishes I'd prepared and set them out.
Then I approached them with the usual two glasses of milk.
Caleb looked exhausted. I caught sight of a deep gash across his shoulder and instinctively stepped forward, about to ask if he was alright.
To my surprise, he shoved me away in irritation.
As a werewolf, he was far stronger than a human like me. The force sent me crashing to the floor, the glass shattering alongside me.
He blinked, momentarily startled, but his expression quickly hardened back into annoyance. "Damn it. Are you blind? Can't you see I'm busy? Always hovering around me... You asked for it.
"The clingy act was one thing, but I'm dead tired today. I come home, and the first thing I see is you acting like a pathetic simp again. Unbelievable."
So that was what my waiting and worrying looked like to him. Clingy. Pathetic.
The sheer disgust in his voice hit like a physical blow.
Heat flooded my face, shame burning through my chest. I couldn't even bring myself to look up. Scrambling to my feet, I fled to my room.
A dull thud echoed from the living room—Silas had punched him.
A few minutes later, Silas came into my room with a first-aid kit and knelt in front of me.
Only then did I realize a shard of glass had sliced into my calf, blood already pooling around my ankle.
