Mom Regretted After I Exposed The Truth Chapter 01
Charlene's POV
My mom, Martha Gibney, developed a rare condition called reverse memory disorder.
She couldn't remember me—her biological daughter—but had no trouble recognizing Rowena Gibney, the adopted daughter she'd once kicked out and the very person responsible for my double leg amputation.
According to her doctor, Lilith Winslow, the closer someone was to her, the harder it was for her to remember them.
Naturally, I ended up becoming the invisible, neglected one.
During Rowena's birthday bash, however, I overheard Lilith joking with Mom. "Can't believe Charlene actually fell for that made-up illness.
"But torturing your flesh and blood like this? Some mother you are."
Mom's tender gaze was fixed on Rowena, who was standing in the distance.
The moment she heard my name, her expression turned irritable. "She has only herself to blame.
"Wena is mentally challenged. She didn't mean to put that thumbtack in Charlene's ballet shoe—yet Charlene insists on suing her for attempted murder.
"If it weren't for Wena giving her blood that day, Charlene would never have survived that surgery!"
But what she'd given me was pig's blood—and that was why I lost both legs.

I gripped the rims of my wheelchair tightly and rolled myself forward, heading straight toward Mom.
Noticing me, Lilith nudged her arm in a panic.
Mom froze for a moment before fixing me with that familiar icy stare. "Who are you?
"I don't recall inviting any disabled guests today."
She swirled the champagne in her glass, her detached tone piercing straight through my heart.
Ever since her "diagnosis," she'd treated me with the same cold indifference whenever we met.
"Mom, it's me, Charlene."
My voice came out calm, but when I looked up and met her eyes, I couldn't stop my tears from falling. "I'm your biological daughter, remember?"
I'd explained myself like that more times than I could count.
Even if she believed me in that moment, she would wake up the next day and forget me all over again.
Thinking of that, I held her gaze, silently hoping she would change her mind and tell me the truth.
But she didn't. She simply turned away in disgust when she saw my tears.
"Wena's my only child," she said to Lilith.
"Scammers these days are getting creative. They'll even pretend to be someone's child just to climb the social ladder."
Lilith's gaze lingered on my defeated expression, her lips parting as if she wanted to say something.
Just then, Rowena waved at our mom from afar. "Mom, there's so much delicious food here—come over!
"And the orchestra is about to start!"
Mom smiled and walked toward her. As she passed me, she paused for a brief moment.
But she soon quickened her pace, as if I were nothing more than a piece of filth.
Watching everything unfold, Lilith gently patted my shoulder. "Charlie, Martha's condition is worsening, but don't give up," she said gravely.
"Think of it this way—the less she remembers you, the more she loves you, isn't that right?"
I raised my hand to wipe away my tears, then looked at her expressionlessly.
"Is there really such a thing as reverse memory disorder? Dr. Winslow, do you think my mom really loves me?"
Hearing me mumble, Lilith froze.
She avoided my gaze, offered a halfhearted explanation, then hurried off.
Her reaction confirmed everything—they had been lying to me all along.
My grip tightened on the armrests until my knuckles turned white, a bitter, metallic taste rising in my throat.
Then, someone in the banquet hall recognized me, and several playboys who had once pursued me surrounded me.
They looked me up and down with lewd interest. "Gosh, the famous ballerina is now a useless cripple.
"Ms. Gibney, how about you be my girl?"
The overweight, repulsive ringleader ran his hands over me.
