My Bestie Stole Every Man I Loved Chapter 01
Ashley's POV
My best friend, Carolyn Langton, called herself a professional "relationship tester."
She slept with every single guy I ever dated, claiming she was protecting me from awful men.
Every time, she'd send me photos of them in bed together with the same smug message, "Ashy, if I hadn't stepped in, another jerk would've played you. Aren't I the best friend ever?"
The endless betrayals eventually broke me. I cut her out of my life completely and moved to a new city for a fresh start.
Then, I met Darian Sanford, the love of my life.
But on our wedding day, Carolyn showed up again, disguised as my makeup artist.
"Ashy, just let me test him before you tie the knot," she said.
She drugged me, slipped into my wedding dress, and crawled into bed with Darian.
I woke up just in time, burst into the bridal suite with hotel security, and had her arrested.
Later, I got pregnant. But during delivery, I started hemorrhaging badly.
Darian refused to sign the consent forms that would have saved my life. He just stood there, watching me writhe in agony, his expression cold and indifferent.
"Carol just wanted to give herself to me before the wedding so she could finally let go," he said coldly.
"But you sent her to prison and drove her to suicide. She was carrying my baby when she died!
"Now, you and your kid are going to pay with your lives!"
That was when I realized—the man I'd believed was the love of my life had fallen for Carolyn long ago.
I died a miserable, agonizing death, and as if it wasn't enough, he dumped my ashes down a sewer.
When I opened my eyes again, I found myself back at the exact moment Carolyn appeared at my wedding—posing as my makeup artist.

Blinking against the harsh vanity lights, I stared at Carolyn's familiar, gorgeous face.
Just like in my previous life, she pointed at me and burst out laughing, while everyone around us shoved their phones in my face, snapping pictures.
I knew exactly what they were laughing at.
My gaze shifted calmly to the mirror. Sure enough, right across my cheek was a blue stamp that read, "Pork Inspected and Passed."
"What's going on? Why are you all laughing?"
The door swung open, and Darian walked in with a bright smile, his suit immaculate.
Carolyn giggled, lunging toward him and grabbing his wrist.
"Mr. Sanford, I set up a little pre-wedding prank for you two. I hope you think it's funny."
Then, her foot "slipped." With a soft gasp, she fell straight into his arms, as if she had lost her balance.
Looking up at him with flushed cheeks, she whispered, "I'm so sorry."
It was her signature move. I'd seen her use it to seduce countless men.
In my previous life, the moment I snapped my eyes open and saw Carolyn beside me, it felt like my worst nightmare had come true.
Staring at the ruined bridal makeup I had once looked forward to, watching her shamelessly flirt with my fiancé like she always did—I had completely lost control.
I had screamed, rushed forward, yanked her away from him, and slapped her hard across the face.
"Get out!" I'd yelled. "You're trying to seduce my fiancé again, aren't you? Nice try!"
Darian had immediately ordered the bridesmaids to hold me back. Carolyn shrank into a corner, her cheek red and swollen as she played the victim. "I wasn't, Mrs. Sanford. You totally misunderstood. It was just a harmless pre-wedding joke."
I'd frantically tried to explain everything to the room—that she was a "relationship tester," that she had hooked up with all my exes, that she had systematically destroyed my past relationships.
But Carolyn had only cried harder, looking like a frightened deer caught in headlights. "I swear I didn't do anything! I don't even know you. I'm literally just the makeup artist.
"I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry! I'll get on my knees and beg if you want, just please stop making up these awful lies about me!"
The whispers had started immediately. "A relationship tester? Has she lost her mind reading those ridiculous web-novels? That's not even a real thing."
"I bet she's just jealous. She probably thinks every woman in the room is after her fiancé. How embarrassing."
Their mockery and the helplessness in Darian's eyes made my explanations sound insane.
Darian had sighed, walked over, and wrapped his arms around me in a patronizing embrace. "It's fine. Look, if you don't like her, let's just fire her, okay?
"But you really should have just talked to me instead of attacking the poor girl and making up crazy stories."
At the time, I thought he had simply been fooled by Carolyn's lies and flawless performance—just like everyone else.
But right before my death, I finally learned the truth—he'd been on her side all along.
This time around, I watched Carolyn throw herself into Darian's arms with cold indifference.
And I caught that fleeting flash of affection in his eyes.
A split second later, he glanced at me and pushed her away.
"That wasn't funny," he said sharply, his expression stern. "Apologize to my wife, clean that mark off her face, and redo her makeup!"
"Don't bother," I said calmly, then grabbed a makeup wipe and started scrubbing the mark off myself.
Visibly relieved, Darian let out a breath and gave Carolyn a gentle pat on the head. "Aren't you going to thank my wife? You're lucky she's so soft-hearted. Anyone else would—"
I cut him off. "Darian, I'm not redoing the makeup. Let's just call off the wedding."
