Goodbye My Ex Chapter 01

At three years old, Julian Hayes and his mother moved to the Maplewood Neighborhood, becoming neighbors with Chloe Carter.
At five, Chloe's father discovered Julian's talent for Chess, and Julian officially began his Chess training.
At eight, Julian won the World Chess Championship youth division, becoming the youngest champion in history.
At eighteen, Julian confessed his feelings to Chloe, and the two officially started dating.
Julian made a promise to Chloe.
"When you graduate from college, we'll get married."
The two were childhood sweethearts, innocent and inseparable.
One was a Chess Grandmaster, and the other was a radiant idol who debuted from a talent show.
The entire internet hoped they would tie the knot soon.
On the eve of their wedding.
Just as Chloe was marveling at how heaven had blessed her with such smooth sailing in life.
She saw her fiancé, Julian, in the dressing room, pinning her strict, unapproachable older sister, Evelyn Carter, against the edge of a table.
"Sister, you're so strict, you can definitely teach me. Teach me, how can I make you feel better?"
...
In the end, the bride was swapped at the wedding, and Chloe went to New York City alone.
Six years later, Chloe returned to Washington D.C., and after the successful conclusion of her final tour concert, she ran into Julian again.
"Could you sign this for me?"
While Chloe was signing autographs for fans outside the venue, a familiar, cool male voice came from above her.
She looked up, meeting Julian's deep, dark eyes.
After six years apart, Julian had grown much more mature.
He wore a black cashmere overcoat over a matching turtleneck sweater, his broad shoulders and narrow waist highlighting his upright posture. Holding an album in his hands, he quietly looked at Chloe.
"Long time no see, Chloe."
"Long time no see."
With that, Chloe took the album Julian handed her and signed her name on it.
As she handed the signed album back to Julian, she offered a professional smile.
"Thank you for your support."
Hearing Chloe's calm tone, Julian froze for a moment.
After a long pause, he spoke slowly.
"Mom and Dad know you're back in Washington D.C. for your concert. They've prepared dinner at home, let's go back and eat together tonight."
The Mom and Dad he spoke of were Chloe's parents.
Chloe nodded: "Alright."
It had been six years; it was time to go back.
Seeing her agree, Julian finally took the signed album and headed back first.
After the fan interaction ended, Chloe got onto the tour bus.
An hour later.
The Rolls-Royce Phantom stopped at the entrance of Maplewood Estates, looking completely out of place in the old, run-down environment.
Chloe stepped out of the car, looking in the direction of her home.
Six years had passed. The old alleyway had now become a neighborhood filled with high-rises, the small mom-and-pop store at the entrance had turned into a chain supermarket, and the willow tree at the mouth of the alley was gone...
She walked forward, surrounded by unfamiliar faces. Even their next-door neighbor, Uncle Jenkins, had moved away.
Finally, she arrived at the door of Unit 3, Room 502.
Chloe rang the doorbell.
The door opened. Mrs. Carter, wearing a grease-stained apron and with a few strands of silver in her long black hair, froze in place when she saw her.
It was Chloe who spoke first: "Mom."
Mrs. Carter snapped back to reality. Looking at her exquisitely dressed youngest daughter in an expensive cashmere coat, her voice trembled slightly: "Chloe is back... Quick, come inside and sit..."
"Okay."
Compared to her mother's nervousness and excitement, Chloe remained very calm.
Her mother handed her a brand-new pair of slippers.
"I bought these especially for you, knowing you were coming back to Washington D.C."
Chloe looked at the slippers at her feet, remembering the past.
She used to only wear her sister's hand-me-downs, or the slippers her parents no longer wanted.
On her tenth birthday, she had made a wish: she wanted a new pair of slippers to call her own.
But her mother had given her the slippers right off her sister's feet: "Your sister wants a new pair too. We'll buy them for her this time, and you can wear these. They're practically new anyway."
Suddenly receiving the new slippers she had dreamed of as a child, Chloe felt absolutely nothing.
After changing into the slippers, she walked further into the house.
The once dim and cramped living room was now spacious and bright. The sofa was neat and clean, the coffee table was no longer cluttered, and a vase held fresh, vibrant lilies.
The only thing that remained unchanged in the house were the display cabinets on either side of the TV.
The cabinets were filled with her sister Evelyn's various awards from childhood to adulthood.
Just then, Mr. Carter walked out of the kitchen holding a plate of Roast Chicken. Seeing Chloe, he gave an awkward smile.
"You're back. Dad saved a drumstick especially for you today."
When she was little, whenever the family stewed a chicken, the drumsticks always went to her sister.
Even though there were two drumsticks, both of them belonged to her sister.
Chloe replied, "No need. I have strict dietary requirements now and can't just eat anything. I'll only sit for a bit before I leave."
Hearing this, a flash of awkwardness crossed Mr. Carter's eyes.
Perhaps hearing the commotion outside, Julian and her sister Evelyn walked out from the kitchen.
Evelyn had her long hair neatly tied back, wearing gold-rimmed glasses on the bridge of her nose. Dressed in a cream silk shirt and a knee-length tailored skirt, she looked incredibly professional.
When she saw Chloe, her eyes looked a bit unnatural.
"Chloe."
