He Regretted After Knowing The Truth Chapter 01

Everyone at the University of San Francisco's law school knew Paulina Quincy—striking, bold, and passionate.
She was also a scholarship winner year after year.
Then a link about her went viral from the dark web. Overnight, it spread across campus.
Everyone who clicked and signed up could earn points to do certain things with her.
A thousand points would secure a movie date with Paulina.
Three thousand points would unlock a video of Paulina in a suggestive bunny outfit, whispering and cooing.
Ten thousand points would earn a passionate night with Paulina.
This trended on the campus network for three straight days, and Paulina's reputation was left in tatters.
Girls stormed into her classes, calling her shameless and demanding that the school expel her, while guys took every chance to bother her.
Blinking back tears, Paulina clicked the trending link. Every video in the reward list was real.
The only person who could have gotten those videos was her boyfriend, Ezequiel Willard, who was also her classmate.
Her heart aching, Paulina ran to Ezequiel's place to confront him.
Outside the door, she heard one of his friends say, "Hey Zek, you're a legend! Now all my friends are asking for the link, talking about the fastest way to rack up points. Not only do you get revenge for Elia, but you also get all that free labor."
Another guy muttered, "Come on, Zek is a trust fund kid. He doesn't make bad deals. Serves her right for stealing Elia's scholarship."
"True. She deserves to be destroyed. But her voice and her body? Top-tier. Every time I watch her video on my screen, I'm about to lose it."
"But Zek, her mom is a murderer. Aren't you worried she'll figure out it's you and cause trouble?"
Ezequiel swirled his wine glass, his gaze cold and detached.
"She's boring. Once this is over, you can have your fun with her.
"As for trouble... She has severe depression and always gets on her knees begging me not to leave after every fight. What kind of trouble can she possibly cause? Find some place to go die?
"Who'd feel sorry for trash like her? With a murderer mother and a stepdad who almost assaulted her? Just keep your mouths shut. No one leaks anything until I'm finished. Got it?"
--
Paulina's whole body went cold. She slumped to the floor, her clothes soaked with cold sweat.
Years ago, after her mother remarried, her stepfather started harassing her.
On her birthday, he spiked her drink.
When she realized what was happening, the heat was already spreading through her limbs.
She bit his ear hard enough to break free and fled the house.
Half-conscious, she collapsed into Ezequiel's arms.
She was tearing at her own clothes, desperate for relief. But he held her tight, his voice soft. "A girl's reputation is everything. Hang on. I'm taking you to the hospital."
The whole way there, she was in such torment that she bit his arm until it bled.
He never made a sound and stayed by her hospital bed all night.
Finally, as dawn broke and her mind cleared, she saw his tired, bloodshot eyes. She knew right then she was gone for him.
They started dating after that.
He treated her like she was the most precious thing in the world, tending to her every need and slowly helping her heal from her trauma.
She thought she'd finally found happiness.
Instead, she'd walked straight into something even more twisted.
Every moment they'd shared—he'd been using it to get back at her for another woman.
A crack of thunder split the sky. The power went out, plunging everything into darkness.
Paulina curled on the dark floor. When her senses returned, she realized her palms were bleeding from where her nails had dug in.
Blankly, she opened her phone. The screen showed several missed calls.
With trembling fingers, she called back.
"Mr. Smithson, I've changed my mind. I'll join the legal department at Rodway Group in New York after graduation."
The love she'd thought was real had cost her everything.
If she could, she never wanted anything to do with Ezequiel again.
