He Killed Our Son For His First Love Chapter 01

My 3-year-old son Samuel Fontana accidentally broke a pin that belonged to Gretchen Haugen—my husband Theodore Fontana's first love. For that, Theodore locked him inside a mine shaft.
I begged him to let Samuel go, crying so hard my whole body shook.
But Theodore didn't care at all and slapped me across the face. "As his mom, you're responsible for his mistakes. It's quiet down in the mine. A perfect place for him to sit there and think about what he did wrong."
To celebrate Gretchen's birthday, Theodore arranged a big, amazing fireworks show just for her.
But the loud vibrations unexpectedly caused the mine to collapse inside the mine.
By the time I got there, Samuel was barely breathing—his little body was hurt badly and covered in blood.
I wanted to tell Theodore what had happened, only to accidentally walk in on him kissing Gretchen.
"Aren't you worried? Locking your own child in a mine shaft like that?"
Theodore's eyes were heavy with drunkenness and said to her. "What's there to worry about? If something really did happen, you could just have another one for me."
Clutching Samuel's emergency medical notice in my hand, I burst into tears.
"Fine, Theodore. Since you have no mercy for our son, there's no reason for me to keep clinging to you," I thought.
After forcing myself to calm down, I dialed my upperclassman's number.
"Damon, I'm ready to divorce Theodore now."

After hanging up, I gathered my courage and pushed open the door to the private room.
Ever since Theodore's mother died, I hadn't come to find him on my own in a very long time.
The smell of alcohol hit me right away, and I almost fell over.
In the corner, Theodore had Gretchen in his arms, kissing her hard like no one else was there.
The moment she saw me, Gretchen hurriedly pushed him away.
"What are you doing here?"
When Theodore noticed me, his gaze turned ice-cold.
I had already prepared myself for this, but the sight of Gretchen curled up in his arms still made my chest ache so badly I could barely breathe.
"Sam's been hurt. Can you ask the hospital to do the surgery on him right away?
"And the medical bills... I don't have that much money on me right now..."
My hand trembling, I held Samuel's critical condition notice out to him.
But he didn't even bother to look, knocking it away at once.
"You think I'm a fool? He was only locked up for a little while. How could anything happen?
"If you want money, just say so. Stop using Sam as an excuse."
His eyes were full of disgust, and he wouldn't even spare me another glance.
A bitter smile came to my face.
Five years, and he was still this icy toward me.
"Theo, Emmy wouldn't joke about something like that.
"Just make one phone call and help her..."
Gretchen pleaded gently, and Theodore visibly softened.
But to me, her fake kindness made me sick.
People around me started snickering, and it took away the last bit of my dignity.
I used to be so proud, but now, I had become the joke of the room.
And it was all because of Theodore.
I wanted to turn around and slam the door behind me. But the thought of Samuel fighting for his life shattered my resolve.
My tears fell heavily onto the floor. Putting my pride aside, I knelt down in front of Theodore and begged.
"I'm really not lying. Please... please help me..." I begged.
Theodore frowned, as though my reaction had taken him by surprise.
"Hey, this report looks real!"
Murmurs spread through the crowd, and Theodore's expression grew more serious.
He took the report and finally called the hospital.
I felt hopeful.
But to my shock, his face darkened the moment he hung up.
Right in front of me, he tore the report into pieces.
"The hospital said there's no such case!
"You really are just as tricky as you were five years ago—using your own son to get my attention!"
At that, I froze where I stood.
I felt helpless and scared, and I couldn't stop trembling.
Theodore looked at me coldly, as though his disgust had reached its limit.
He pulled out a thick stack of cash from his bag and spoke in a low voice.
"You want money? Fine." He pointed at the alcohol on the table and gave a sneering smile. "One glass, one bill."
The crowd's teasing and shouting surrounded me, and I felt completely desperate.
But I had no choice. Not if it meant saving Samuel.
I picked up a glass and drank it all in one go. My throat felt like it was burning.
As I downed one glass after another, my stomach felt really sick, my face looked really painful.
"One glass at a time is too slow. A whole bottle's faster!"
A rude man burst out laughing, slammed a hand down on the back of my head, and forced an entire bottle toward my mouth.
Liquor poured wildly down my throat, making me couldn't stop coughing.
While I struggled, alcohol spilled from the corners of my mouth, mixing with tears and snot, making my face a mess.
Throughout it all, Theodore kept one arm wrapped around Gretchen, watching everything with complete indifference.
My dignity was completely destroyed in front of them, yet there was nothing I could do to stop it.
Half-conscious, I thought I saw Theodore's brow crease slightly.
But the next moment, that little bit of feeling disappeared beneath the coldness on his face.
"That's enough. Stop it."
Theodore suddenly stood up and coldly stopped the nonsense.
Gretchen pouted. "Theo, you..."
Theodore said nothing. He only walked over quickly and looked down at me coldly.
"Don't get the wrong idea."
He pointed at the liquor spilled across the floor and ordered, "Lick it clean. That's the only way you're getting the money."
