He Only Went Mad After Losing Me Chapter 01

In my past life, I didn’t know until I was about to die that the person my husband, Fernando Kenning, truly loved was my stepsister. He hated me for taking her place and tormented me for an entire lifetime.
When I opened my eyes again, the first thing I did was to tell my stepsister that I’d like to take her place in marrying Sebastian Norland, who was serving time in prison.
"What? You're willing to take my place and marry that prisoner Sebastian Norland?"
Penelope's eyes went wide, staring at me in disbelief.
I answered calmly, "Yes."
Penelope frowned, suspicious. "Since when are you so nice? This isn't another one of your games, is it?"
Penelope and I were just as famous in Dallas for our bitter feud.
The first time we met, I pushed her down the stairs, and she scratched my face.
All these years, our open and secret battles had never stopped.
I lowered my eyes, hiding the emotions in them. "If you don't agree, pretend I never said anything."
Terrified that I'd change my mind, Penelope nodded hastily. "I agree! As long as I don't have to marry Sebastian, I'll take whatever trick you're playing on me!"
She paused, a fiery glint flaring in her eyes. "If you marry Sebastian in my place, what about your wedding with Nando next month?"
My voice was a little hoarse. "The wedding goes ahead as planned. You'll marry Fernando."
Joy flashed across Penelope's face before she suppressed it, eyeing me cautiously. "You mean it?"
I lifted my eyes and glanced at her. "Believe it or not."
Penelope bit her lip hard. After a long moment, she spoke like she was burning her bridges, "Corinne, I'll take this deal.
"But the Kenning family might not be happy about swapping brides. Maybe we should keep it quiet until the wedding day itself."
I knew she was worried she wouldn't get to marry Fernando if word got out.
After all, Fernando's parents never liked her. They only accepted me as their daughter-in-law.
I agreed. I'd never planned on telling Fernando or his family anyway.
I walked back to my room with a cold expression.
When I was about to close the door, Fernando stopped me with a dark expression.
"Did you go pick on Nelly again? She's heartbroken enough about having to marry that convict. Why do you keep provoking her? Can't you just cut her some slack?
"I don't get what your dad is thinking. How could he agree to marry Nelly off to an outlaw like Sebastian?"
I looked up at him, a faint, mocking smile on my lips. "My dad is dead set on an alliance with the Norland family. If Penelope won't marry him, then I have to."
He froze for a second, then tugged at his lips, sneering, "You'd never marry him. We're getting married next month. Nelly's the only one who's gonna marry into that family. No one else."
I shoved him out the door with all my strength. "Maybe there is someone else."
My voice was too quiet. Fernando didn't hear me. "What did you say?"
I didn't reply, just slammed the door shut.
I leaned back against it, eyes closed, all strength gone as I slid slowly to the floor.
After a long while, I sat on the floor and muttered to myself, "Fernando, you're gonna be so surprised when you see Penelope as the bride on our wedding day."
