When Love Dies Chapter 01

She chased him for years, believing love could fix everything.
Four years into marriage, she realized love was the only thing dying.
Then his first love came back—crying, helpless, and calling his name.
And he went.
"Des loves me too much," he told her. "If something happened, she couldn't go on."
Until she saw his texts with his first love:
"How could you back out at a time like that?
"If I hadn't backed out... would you have chosen me?"
"Yes."
Days later, she opened the door— and found them tangled on her living room floor.
Her response?
A smile.
"Reginald, let's get a divorce."
When love dies, a woman doesn't cry.
She plans.
And he pays.

The couch was a bit cramped.
When Reginald sat down, his long legs in crisp trousers pressed naturally against mine.
I quietly shifted my leg two centimeters away, letting out a silent sigh of relief.
He didn't seem to notice, too busy chatting with the crowd surrounding him.
This class reunion had been thrown specifically by old classmates who needed favors from him, and he was obviously the center of attention.
Reginald carried himself with ease, calm yet subtly distant—his usual cold, aloof self.
"Man, you've been holding out on us! In just a few years, you've become a total big shot in the business world. We can't hold a candle to you!"
"Destiney, you sure are lucky! But you'd better keep a close eye on him. Back when Reginald was broke, he still got stacks of love letters. Now that he's successful, women are probably throwing themselves at him like crazy!"
"What's there to worry? Back then, Destiney pursued Reginald with such fanfare! Now the energetic girl has turned into a gorgeous lady, and she can still shut down all those flirts and gold diggers without breaking a sweat!"
Amid all the flattery, a female classmate in the corner let out a soft scoff, which stuck out like a sore thumb.
"Some people just have all the luck, don't they? Even stealing someone's man can be spun into a romantic story when you're rich... Out with the old, in with the new, I guess."
Her words instantly made the atmosphere awkward.
I turned to look at her. She was one of the girls who used to give Reginald love letters.
Her face was red. She was clearly drunk.
Reginald said nothing, just picked up his wine glass and took a slow sip.
I knew what he meant.
He was staying quiet and wanted me to do the same.
In the past, I'd have obediently followed his lead.
But this time, I didn't.
"From the way you're talking, people might think you and Reginald were a thing, and I stole him from you!" I tilted my head and spoke.
She froze, then retorted, her face flushed, "I never said that! Don't twist my words. I was talking about someone else! Can you honestly say you didn't take advantage of the situation to steal him from someone?"
All eyes were on me, flickering with a mix of curiosity and excitement for drama.
Her words were harsh. Even if I didn't want to argue, I needed to set the record straight.
I looked right at her. "Sorry to disappoint you, but when Reginald and I got together, he was genuinely single. As for this 'someone else' you keep mentioning, if you mean..."
"That's enough," Reginald cut in, his voice displeased.
He set his glass down on the table with a firm click, the red liquid swirling inside.
