Rebirth Of A Broken Vow Chapter 01

Gwendolyn Dawney died in the year she loved Callister Compton most.
She was pregnant when Callister and her half-sister Katelynn Dawney locked her inside a villa and burned her alive, killing both her and the child.
Yet, her spirit lingered, floating in the air as she witnessed the arrival of Xavier Remington.
Rumored to be worth billions and known for his cold detachment, he lost his composure for the first time at the sight of her charred body.
He cast everything aside and avenged her in the most ruthless means.
Finally, cradling her unrecognizable body, he leaped with her into the raging flames.
He said, "Gwen, I'll keep you company. You won't be alone. Don't worry."
Thus, when Gwendolyn was reborn six years in the past, she did not hesitate to take off her wedding dress. Under the shocked stares of all the guests, she left Callister and ran to Xavier, the man who had died for her in her previous life.
This time, she wouldn't miss the man who had loved her his whole life.
After their marriage, they shared a sweet and stable life. Xavier cherished her like a princess, making up for every regret from her past life.
But in the second year of their marriage, her former husband Callister was also reborn.
He knelt before her, crying his eyes out, listing all his sins. He offered to transfer all his property to her name and went to church daily to pray, all in the hope of earning her forgiveness.
"Gwen, give me one more chance. I'll only love you in this life."
Gwendolyn coldly pulled the hem of her skirt from his grasp, her words clear and cold.
"I only want Xavier."
Yet, the man she only wanted had changed.
Xavier began to hook up with other women, starting with those closest to her. He spared no one—not her newly adult niece, nor her still charming aunt.
And finally, he chose Katelynn, the very sister who had burned her alive with Callister in her past life.
Gwendolyn collapsed in the living room from stomach pain while he was having a candlelit dinner with Katelynn at a top-notch restaurant.
He even let Katelynn run over and kill the stray dog they had adopted together.
When Gwendolyn held the puppy's cold body and screamed at him in tears, he only looked at her coldly.
"Do people really need a reason to fall out of love?"
At that moment, Gwendolyn stopped asking for reasons. She drafted divorce papers overnight and told Xavier's mother, Mariah Remington, who had always been kind to her.
She would leave with nothing.
To ensure Xavier wouldn't stop her, she even booked a fake death service, set for seven days later.
The next day, Gwendolyn went to Xavier's company.
"Sorry, Ms. Dawney. Mr. Remington is meeting with a guest. You can't go up."
The receptionist wore a professional smile, but her eyes held a hint of contempt and pity.
Gwendolyn didn't need to guess. The "guest" was Katelynn.
She held up the divorce agreement, her voice eerily calm.
"I didn't come to catch up. I'm here for a divorce."
The receptionist's smile froze, replaced by sheer shock.
Gwendolyn ignored her and walked straight to the elevator.
The door to the CEO's office was slightly ajar. Even the best soundproofing couldn't completely muffle the unmistakable, intimate sounds coming from within.
"Xav, who makes you feel better? Me or Gwen?"
Then came Xavier's low laugh, laced with post-satisfaction laziness.
"Do you even have to ask?"
Katelynn seemed unsatisfied. "Then why did you marry Gwen in the first place? Why not choose me?"
A moment of silence fell inside.
Through the crack in the door, Gwendolyn saw Xavier shirtless, twirling Katelynn's long hair carelessly.
The sight was so sickening that she almost threw up.
Then she heard Xavier's emotionless voice drift out softly.
"Maybe... I just felt sorry for her."
Gwendolyn pushed the door open.
The sounds inside stopped abruptly.
Katelynn gasped and hurried to cover herself, yet her face was flushed with triumph.
Xavier glanced over, then buried his chin back into the crook of Katelynn's neck, his voice thick with annoyance at the interruption.
"Who let you in?"
Gwendolyn held back the metallic taste rising in her throat and set the divorce papers on the desk.
Xavier did not even bother to look. He only gestured to Katelynn in his arms.
"You sign it."
Curled against him, Katelynn picked up the document. As she flipped to the signature page, a victorious curve tugged at her lips.
"Xav... Gwen brought this for you to sign. You won't even look before making me sign. What if it's something important?"
"Just sign it. You have my full authority."
Gwendolyn stared at him in shock and reminded him instinctively, "Xavier, take a look. This is..."
"Her word is as good as mine," he cut her off with a derisive snort.
"Come on, you think I'd go back on my word?"
In that moment, Gwendolyn couldn't tell if it was disappointment or something else.
Even at their worst, he had always reviewed every document she brought before signing.
As Gwendolyn watched blankly, Katelynn picked up the pen and signed Xavier's name where the husband should sign.
The second she finished, her face showed unbridled pride and triumph.
Gwendolyn took the papers that symbolized her failed rebirth and turned to leave.
But she had only taken one step when Xavier's voice came from behind her. "Wait."
He yanked her back forcibly.
Caught off guard, Gwendolyn fell to the floor and looked straight up into Xavier's eyes.
For a split second, as their eyes met, Gwendolyn caught a flash of pain and panic in his deep, unfathomable eyes.
It was the same look he had given her charred body in her past life.
But before she could be sure, it vanished, replaced by his usual coldness and annoyance.
"You're coming home," he commanded from above.
"Lynn's pregnant. She's moving into the house to rest from today on. You'll take care of her every need."
He paused and added, "Your chicken soup tastes good. Go make some for her when we get home."
Pregnant? Carrying his child?
Only then did Gwendolyn notice the pronounced curve of Katelynn's belly. Gwendolyn bit down hard to keep from vomiting on the spot.
"I won't make it! You'd better look at those papers..."
"It's alright, Xav!" Katelynn cut in softly, tugging his sleeve with feigned fragility. "Don't make her do something she doesn't want to. I can manage on my own."
Sure enough, the next second, Xavier grabbed Gwendolyn's wrist. "You'll do what I tell you! You're my wife—bound to obey me for life. And you know exactly what happens when I'm crossed."
Xavier brought Gwendolyn back to the villa against her will.
The moment they arrived, Katelynn stepped close, her sharp perfume hitting Gwendolyn in the face.
"See, Gwen?" she whispered.
Her voice was soft but cutting deep.
"What's the point of a second chance? No matter who you choose, you can never win against me."
