My Next Incubus Chapter 01
Julian's eyes were red, his brows furrowed as if he had reached the absolute limit of his endurance.
Over the past few days, his body had grown increasingly weak.
He sat on the edge of the bed, panting heavily.
I flipped through the incubus manual.
"It clearly says right here, as long as..."
I gave a light, awkward cough.
"You supposedly won't feel so uncomfortable anymore."
I reached out toward his collar.
There was a bright red mole on his collarbone just below his neck, rising and falling with his breaths, exceptionally alluring.
Just as I was about to stroke it, I was violently shoved away.
I looked at the redness blooming on my pale wrist and gave a slight frown.
He still wouldn't let me touch him.
"Sorry, it was a subconscious reaction."
His eyes were dark and unreadable as he looked at me.
"I'm going to take a cold shower."
Watching his retreating back, I pulled out my phone to contact customer service.
Julian was the new incubus I had received a month ago.
I had spent a fortune to have him custom-made exactly to my preferences, waiting a full year for his arrival.
But the funny thing was, incubus were supposed to gain sustenance by feeding off their owners, yet he absolutely refused to let me touch him.
[Why is my incubus so different from the others? He's already in so much pain over there, but he refuses to let me touch him no matter what.]
Listening to the splashing water from the bathroom, I waited for customer service's reply.
[Have you formed a bond with him?]
I looked at the incubus manual. How could I make such a stupid mistake?
[I pulled him into forming the bond on the very first night he arrived home.]
It took a long time for the other end to reply.
[That shouldn't be happening. The incubus from our store are professionally trained. Every single one of them is incredibly clingy and wants to be stuck to their owner.]
I was getting a bit anxious.
[Do you think I'd lie to you?]
Customer service replied with a good temper.
[Don't worry. How about this: you send him back, and I'll send you a replacement. The new incubus will arrive in about 7 days.]
Almost at the exact moment I received that message, the bathroom door opened.
Julian was wrapped in a white bathrobe. Drops of water from his temples trailed down his sharply defined jawline, tracing over his chest and abs before slipping into the robe.
I swallowed hard.
He was just too perfectly my type, tailor-made specifically for me.
But he actually turned out to be broken.
[I'll observe him for a bit longer. If he doesn't get better, I'll consider requesting a repair.]
Customer service meant to just scrap him entirely, and that would be way too much of a pity.
[Alright, contact me again if you have any questions. Bye~]
I turned off my phone.
The man's pale face and red-rimmed eyes made my heart ache for a moment.
"I just asked customer service, and they said this kind of situation has never happened before..."
I looked at him with pity.
How could he suddenly get sick when he was perfectly fine?
Doesn't he look healthy enough?
Julian's hand paused while drying his hair.
His eyes darkened, devoid of any emotion as he looked over.
He was nothing like those incubus I saw in the commercials, whose eyes would sparkle with stars when looking at their owners.
"If you still can't accept it in a few days, I'll take you in for repairs."
He seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and nodded.
I felt a bit wronged.
It was truly frustrating to only be able to look but not touch.
I simply got up and left the room.
The reason I bought an incubus was exactly because I liked this type.
My dad called, and I answered it with irritation.
"Your grandmother misses you again. When are you coming home?"
I knew it was just an excuse; he was obviously the one who missed me.
My dad doted on me to a fault. Not seeing me for two days was like killing him.
I rubbed my forehead.
"Alright, I know. I'll be there in a bit..."
I turned around and froze.
Julian was packing his luggage.
"Do you... really like going back to my home?"
I hadn't even hung up the phone, and he was already packing.
The man's hands paused, but he said nothing.
I didn't think much of it either.
