Love Built On Lies And Revenge Chapter 01

After nine rounds of IVF, Estella Amies finally got pregnant. As soon as she got the results, she rushed to her husband—Beckett Gleason's company right away, eager to share the joy with him.
But just as she reached the door to his office, a man's voice drifted out from inside.
"Estella's finally pregnant. Beck, how do you feel now?"
"It's everything I've wished for." Beckett's voice was deep and laced with a smile. "Deserves a big celebration."
A smile spread across Estella's face.
She had spent six years trying to conceive. Through nine rounds of IVF, she had lost count of the pills she'd swallowed and the injections she'd endured. It'd been agonizing and consuming, but she'd never wavered.
Because she knew Beckett loved her. Even though he longed for a child, he'd offered to be childless just to spare her pain.
Estella couldn't bear to see the man she loved so much live a life with regret. So she took it all—the pain, the struggle—and finally made it through.
Now, that final imperfection in their lives had been made whole.
Estella was about to push the door open when loud laughter erupted from inside.
"After everything she's been through, she's finally pregnant—with her rapist's child. I can't wait to see Estella's face when she finds out."
"I saw her once at the church. You should've seen her, praying for a baby like her life depended on it. It was pathetic. And all that time, she had no idea Beck never even stopped the birth control."
"Six years of hell and this is what she gets. Carrying the child of the man who almost destroyed her. Now that's what I call revenge."
Those words struck Estella like thunder. Her hand froze mid-air.
For a moment, she even thought she was having a hallucination.
What was Beckett taking revenge on her for?
In a daze, she heard someone ask Beckett a question.
"Beck, what did Estella do to you? Why did you go to such lengths to get back at her?"
Estella slowly lifted her gaze and, through the gap in the door, looked at Beckett—the man she thought she knew better than anyone.
"The last call my parents got before they died was from Estella. She took the last 24 dollars and 77 cents they had on them, and then they jumped off the building."
A sneer escaped Beckett's thin lips. "Is that reason enough?"
Estella's face turned deathly pale instantly, and she trembled all over.
She never thought the money she'd never even touched would become the reason Beckett believed she had driven his parents to their deaths.
That couldn't be more ridiculous.
"Beck, when do you plan to tell her the truth?"
"Estella's birthday is in seven days," Beckett said, word by word. "Perfect timing for this 'great gift'."
"Why not wait until she gives birth? That'd hit harder."
"Monnie is pregnant with my baby. If I wait, it wouldn't be fair for her and the baby." Beckett flicked a cigarette into his mouth, the smoke curling around his cold, indifferent eyes.
"And, I can't stand that dirty woman anymore."
Loud laughter broke out again inside.
Every laugh cut like a knife, splintering Estella's heart.
Her mind went blank. She turned and left, like a walking dead woman.
A heavy downpour started, the cold seeping into her bones.
Estella was Beckett's parents' creditor.
The first time she'd met Beckett was the day his parents jumped off the building.
She was twenty by then, just having reclaimed her mother's inheritance from her father—a pompous social climber—and his mistress. When he threatened to kill himself, she told him to do it immediately. That single act earned her the reputation of an unfilial daughter.
Back then, Beckett was just fifteen, a fragile boy covered in blood, cornered by debt collectors with no way out.
Panic flickered across his face, but his red eyes burned with a beast-like ferocity—just like hers, when she'd been thrown out of the house right after her mother's death.
Estella felt a twinge of compassion. So, she took him in and raised him with great care.
When she was twenty-three, Beckett confessed his love to her for the first time. She laughed and didn't take it to heart.
But Beckett never gave it up. For two years, he pursued her with every trick in the book, yet Estella never paid him any mind.
Then, two years later, in an earthquake, Beckett threw himself over her without hesitation, and a steel bar pierced his chest.
The blood soaked through Estella's clothes, and she would never forget that scene.
It was only then that she finally fell for him. When Beckett asked once more if she'd be his girlfriend, she nodded.
After they got together, Beckett doted on her endlessly. He'd written hundreds of pages of notes about her, and they were also the perfect couple in everyone's eyes.
But all that beauty shattered two years later, when Estella was kidnapped.
She endured three whole days of hell. And on the day she finally escaped, the word "slut" carved into her face turned the victim into a disgrace in the eyes of everyone around her.
It was Beckett who'd stayed by her side unwaveringly.
She suffered from PTSD, so he dropped all his work, took her across the ocean to see the most brilliant auroras, experience polar days and nights, and feel the clearest glaciers at the southernmost tip of the world.
He held her hand through the darkest, hardest days, repeating again and again that gossip only revealed the shallowness and malice of those who spread it—and that she had never been in the wrong.
Back then, Beckett was her salvation, bringing her new life.
So she accepted his proposal and entrusted everything to Beckett, while turning all her attention to caring for his life. She became like her mother—the virtuous wife and devoted mother she had once despised.
In a daze, Estella walked to the bridge. The words she'd just heard still felt like they were echoing in her ears.
"Six years of hell and this is what she gets. Carrying the child of the man who almost destroyed her. Now that's what I call revenge."
Then, it was Beckett's words.
"And, I can't stand that dirty woman anymore."
Estella looked down at the turbulent river below, tears streaming down her face.
Her trembling fingers grazed her abdomen. The baby that had once brought her joy—and the life built on countless lies—had become her personal hell.
One step forward, and all this torment would finally end.
Estella took an instinctive step forward. Just as she felt herself tipping into the void, a hand shot out and pulled her back.
Estella stared blankly, looking up. Standing in front of her was Vaughn Whitaker—her lifelong rival, and now the competitor Beckett feared the most.
"I told you six years ago, you were only giving him the weapon to hurt you with when you entrusted everything to him."
Vaughn exuded nobility, his playful eyes filled with condescending mockery.
"But killing yourself... Estella, that's not like you."
The heartbeat in Estella's ears grew louder and louder, but her mind became clearer and clearer.
She looked at him, saying each word slowly and firmly.
"Vaughn, let's team up. You take down his business. I'll make sure he goes to hell, with my own hands."
