When I Enjoy My Loveless Marriage Chapter 01

I had entered a loveless marriage of convenience with Cameron Lauzon, and I'd become skilled at keeping it going.
When he fell for his secretary and people told me I had every right to drive her away, I simply remained the gracious, considerate wife.
"Honey," I said to Cameron, "if you love her, keep her by your side."
Cameron thought I was trying to provoke him. He warned me not to regret it later.
But in the end, he was the one begging me, tears in his eyes.
"Glenda, please," he said. "Just look at me one more time."

I had to admit—I used to have feelings for Cameron.
In the beginning, we even had some sweet times together.
But at some point, he began falling for his new secretary.
He must have been really taken with her.
Because he was honest about it from the start.
He told me, "Glenda, I don't think I love you anymore."
I didn't understand.
I was right there in his arms, held tight. How could he just stop loving me? How was that even possible?
Feeling me go stiff, Cameron held me even closer.
"Don't worry. I won't do anything to betray you.
"I wouldn't want to put her in that position anyway."
Not knowing what to say, I gathered up a blanket and moved to the guest room.
I was at the bedroom door when he spoke again.
"Glenda, don't make trouble for her."
I didn't turn around.
Behind me, Cameron's voice was as deep as ever.
Only this time, there was a faint tension and a tremor even he didn't seem to notice.
I cried all night, thinking it all over.
I could say with a clear conscience I'd never done anything to let Cameron down.
I was still young, and I knew I wasn't hard to look at.
So what made him want someone else?
Well, I guess it didn't matter.
His heart had strayed. There was no point clinging to a sinking ship.
Running a marriage without love—that was what I'd become good at.
The next day, I said to Cameron, who was standing in the doorway wanting my forgiveness, "If you love her that much, go be with her. I don't mind."
He didn't look exactly happy.
He stared at me for a long moment, something like disappointment on his face.
"You still don't believe me.
"The fact that I told you means there's nothing going on between Coco and me, and there won't be. Why can't you trust me?"
From that day on, Cameron and I were locked in the worst silent treatment we'd ever had.
It lasted three years.
He hardly ever came home.
I hardly ever reached out.
Our only contact was the obligatory sex once a month.
But during those three years, he kept Colette Lawrence by his side constantly.
He played daddy to her daughter. He dealt with her alcoholic ex-husband.
He even handled all the little, tedious things in her life.
If she needed groceries, they'd stop at the supermarket after work and shop together.
Then they'd go back together to her place.
If a pipe leaked, they'd make a mess of the house trying to fix it.
Just then, my phone buzzed, pulling me out of my thoughts.
It was Cameron's lawyer.
"Mrs. Lauzon, could you come to the police station to pick up Mr. Lauzon?"
I sighed helplessly.
I moved the aesthetician's hand away from my massage, got up, and stepped off the bed.
Cameron got into another fight at the office with Colette's ex-husband, and they ended up at the police station.
This was the third time this month.
