I'm Leaving This Time Chapter 01
Callum Turner, my husband Zachary Garrett's comrade, died saving him.
Callum's widow, Josephine Sutton, suffered from severe panic disorder; she couldn't handle harsh words or any kind of distress.
Out of gratitude, Zachary brought her into our home.
Once she moved in, he established new rules—her well-being was the top priority, no one was allowed to raise their voice, and bright colors were forbidden.
When Josephine poured my limited-edition perfume into the toilet and cut my expensive gown into pieces, I still had to smile and say it didn't matter.
When she complained that the guest room was too dimly lit and demanded the master bedroom, I moved into the study without a single word of protest.
Yesterday, she raised a new concern: Zachary was married, so her living here was inappropriate, and people would gossip. The only solution, she implied, was for us to divorce.
"Evie, Callum died saving me. Josephine's mental condition is fragile right now, and she can't handle rumors. It's just paperwork. Let's finalize the divorce so she can focus on recovering. Okay?"
Zachary crouched in front of me, held my hands, and spoke with extreme gentleness.
I paused briefly, then forced a faint smile and said calmly, "Okay."
The guilt in his eyes instantly turned into joy. He hugged me tightly. "Thank you, Evie. You're always so understanding. I promise I'll treat you even better from now on."
"Okay."
I lowered my eyes, concealing the emotions swirling deep within.
Once he hurried off, beaming with joy, to share the good news with Josephine, I took out my phone and opened the WhatsApp message from the real estate agent.
"Ms. Lloyd, the buyer is pushing for a quick closing. Could you move out this weekend?"
"Give me three days," I replied.

After I sent the message, the forced smile faded from my face. I turned to the closet and started packing.
I had lived in this house for five years, yet there was nothing left worth holding onto.
Just then, Josephine walked in with two contractors.
Dressed in my silk nightgown, she looked perfectly radiant, without the slightest hint of her usual panic.
She pointed at the large crystal chandelier in the living room. "Take that down and throw it out. It's blinding. It makes me dizzy."
The workers immediately set up a ladder, and dust soon covered the once-clean floor.
I stared at the chandelier, my expression blank. It was a wedding gift from my father, bought at an overseas auction, and it was incredibly expensive.
This house was my pre-marital property. Although Zachary's business was doing well now, he had been penniless when he left the military. My father, afraid I would suffer, not only gave me the house but also provided Zachary with substantial startup capital.
Josephine noticed me and smiled. "Evelyn, now that the divorce is happening, you won't mind a little makeover, right? That chandelier is too flashy. It's not suitable for someone in my condition."
I said nothing.
Zachary came out of the master bedroom, pulling a suitcase. When he saw what was happening, his expression shifted, and he instinctively looked at me.
