Husband In Bed Uncle In Name Chapter 01
Thalassa's POV
I had an unexpected one-night stand with Frederic Goldstein, my uncle in name only.
Word was, he never committed and never slept with the same woman twice.
But he'd kept me around for six months, hidden the entire time.
Then one day, Frederic's mother, Calista Goldstein, showed me a photograph with a bright smile.
"Fred's fiancée. His choice. Isn't she beautiful?"
I looked at the stunning woman in the picture and offered my congratulations with a smile.
"She's gorgeous. You two are perfect together. Congratulations, Uncle Fred."
Late that night, Frederic appeared in my room.
"You've got some nerve, Thalassa—calling me 'Honey' in bed and 'Uncle Fred' out of it. What is this, a game to you?"
***
My body still ached when I made my way downstairs.
Frederic was already seated at the table.
He hadn't bothered with a tie. His collar hung open, and there it was—that bite mark on his collarbone.
My legs turned to jelly, and I nearly lost my footing.
I scrambled to grab the railing to steady myself.
He looked up at me, his voice as calm and measured as always.
"Watch your step."
"Okay."
He didn't respond, just lowered his gaze and continued eating.
I watched his long fingers wrap around the knife and fork as he cut into the food on his plate.
His hands were well-defined, looking clean and strong.
Heat crept up my cheeks.
Last night, those hands—usually gripping a scalpel—had explored parts of me I'd never even touched myself, bringing me more pleasure than I'd ever known, again and again.
I bypassed the dining room and headed straight for the kitchen.
I grabbed an egg and a carton of milk and made for the door.
"Lassa."
Frederic's voice stopped me cold.
I turned instinctively.
He was already on his feet, accepting his coat from the housekeeper.
"I'm heading that way anyway. Let me give you a ride."
"That's okay. I can take the subway..."
He just looked down at me, saying nothing.
The moment I saw that bite mark on his collarbone, I averted my eyes in panic.
"No subway today."
He checked his watch.
"Let's go."
I was afraid of annoying him, so I didn't push it.
Being a surgeon, Frederic had an obsession with cleanliness.
I didn't dare eat in his car, so I stuffed the egg and milk into my bag.
The motion of getting in the car had tugged at the wound.
I ended up sitting there stiffly.
Frederic noticed.
He set down his iPad and lowered the privacy partition.
"We'll stop at a pharmacy on the way. Get you some ointment."
I kept my head down, face burning.
"Okay."
"If it still hurts after you apply the ointment, come to the hospital. I'll take care of it."
"Got it."
"I had too much to drink last night. Lost control a little. Sorry."
"It's fine, Uncle Fred. I was drunk, too. So it's partly on me."
I knew exactly what he was thinking.
To him, it was nothing more than a one-night stand.
But I hadn't been drunk at all. I'd just pretended to be drunk and finally let myself cross that line.
"Don't overthink this," he said. "Focus on your studies for now."
"Okay."
The car glided forward.
I sat perfectly still, keeping to myself.
Sometimes, when we hit a bump, my leg, exposed beneath my short skirt, would graze against his trousers.
He didn't move away.
But I made a point of shifting just slightly farther from him.
We passed a pharmacy.
He had the driver pull over and went in himself to get the ointment.
"Follow the instructions."
I took it from him and nodded.
He dropped me off near campus.
I watched the car disappear.
Then I tossed the ointment in the trash.
