His Love Came After I Let Go Chapter 01
I used to cry every time I saw my husband with his secretary.
I begged, fought, checked his phone, begged again.
He called me crazy. Pathetic. Jealous.
Then I died— hit by a car after he left me with nothing.
When I opened my eyes again… same life, same husband, same mistress in his arms.
But this time I didn't cry. I just handed her the hotel room key and said,
"Have fun tonight. I already booked the best view."
He's panicking now. Chasing me. Begging. Crying.
Too late, baby.
I'm not here to win you back.
I'm here to win EVERYTHING.
--
I walked in on the intern kissing my husband, Martin Hopwood, the man I'd married because of a family arrangement.
Upon seeing me, she scrambled to her knees, her eyes brimming with tears. "I'm sorry, Mrs. Hopwood. Please let me go."
In my previous life, I'd caused a huge scene and divorced Martin in a fit of anger.
Without the Hopwood family's backing, I was left with nothing and died alone on a delivery run.
In this life, when Martin glanced at me indifferently and asked if I wanted a divorce, I didn't answer.
Instead, I gently took the girl's hand. "My dear, from now on, you and I will take care of Marty together.
"As long as he's happy, I'm fine with anything."
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw his face turn pale.
--
"What did you say?"
Martin Hopwood turned to look at me, his expression unreadable, his tone one of sheer disbelief.
I couldn't be bothered to repeat myself.
Letting go of Abagail Lloyd's hand, I turned to leave.
He caught my wrist from behind. "Repeat what you just said."
Before I could speak, he pressed his lips together and then explained, "Abagail and I... She's just my secretary.
"My tie was stained. She was helping me change it.
"She lost her balance in her heels. That's why—"
"I know. I believe you."
I cut him off.
Martin faltered, the words dying in his throat as he stared at me.
Just then, Abagail let out a sudden sob, breaking the tense silence.
"Mrs. Hopwood, I know you're still upset.
"Take your anger out on me if you must, but please, stop making things so hard for me. I'm just Mr. Hopwood's secretary, nothing more. And I can't lose this job..."
This wasn't her first provocation.
When tasked with purchasing my gown for the annual gala with Martin, she intentionally ordered it in her own size to ensure it wouldn't fit me.
She adorned Martin's favorite fountain pen with little heart-shaped stickers.
And when a project lead mistook her for his wife, she just blushed and smiled, neither confirming nor denying.
I'd fought with Martin about it countless times before.
And every time, he'd just frown, his look cool and detached.
"Why are you picking on a girl who's just graduated?"
***
Remembering this, I looked at Abagail calmly. "Why would I make things hard for you?
"It wasn't intentional. I understand."
Abagail was caught off guard.
Beside us, Martin, who had been watching with his arms crossed, suddenly laughed.
He shook his head, a brow arched. "How pathetic."
I frowned. "What?"
"This whole 'playing hard to get' act. It's pathetic."
He sneered, "For a moment, I almost thought you really didn't care."
