Katniss Blondeau spent a decade living on the edge with Tyron Lestrange in the gritty streets of Deep Ellum, Dallas.
During those ten years, he cheated on her three times, and she asked for a divorce twice.
But after their son, Leon Lestrange, was killed by his beloved mistress, Tyron never strayed again.
He left the gang in the hands of his most trusted men and took Katniss with him on a long journey around the world.
They visited 30 countries, and at every stop, he proposed to her.
Amid everyone's cheers and blessings, Katniss stayed calm and pulled her hand away every single time.
Then, during a deep-sea dive, her submersible malfunctioned. With her oxygen nearly gone, Tyron shoved his regulator into her mouth.
Weak and pale in his hospital bed, he pulled out the same ring and proposed to Katniss for the thirty-first time.
Remembering Leon's final wish, Katniss tearfully slid the ring she had once taken off back onto her finger.
Tyron cried with overwhelming joy, like a child who had found his lost candy.
"Katy, I swear I'll never fail you again."
His words moved her immensely.
After returning to Dallas, he cut off all his toxic friends, blocking and deleting them, and became the perfect husband.
Katniss was in poor health, and Tyron blamed himself. When he heard that kneeling on a bed of spiked rods could atone for his sins, he stayed on the jagged spikes all night. By morning, he had collapsed from blood loss and was rushed to the hospital.
Even his friends could see how much he had changed.
Gradually, Katniss started waiting up for him every night, just as she had in the past.
She made him soup and pasta. Together, they visited the cemetery, bringing along the toys Leon used to love.
Things were fine until a tabloid dropped a bombshell. "Tyron Lestrange's Former Lover Spotted in a Brothel! Once His Precious Darling, Now Groped and Beaten, Her Scars Hidden Beneath Heavy Makeup!"
Tyron merely glanced at the headline before flipping the page.
Katniss sat across from him, drinking the avocado smoothie he had made for her.
Just as she was almost done, Tyron spoke. "The toys we ordered for Leon have arrived. I'm going to get them first thing tomorrow, then swing back to grab you before we head to the cemetery."
His eyes shone with affection, and his expression was calm and untroubled.
Then he stood up and placed a kiss on her head.
Katniss murmured her assent, and he began his morning routine.
The moment the bathroom door clicked shut, Katniss's phone vibrated. She tapped the screen, and a video sprang to life before her eyes.
It showed a disheveled woman in provocative clothing, her hands bound.
Her cheeks were swollen, blood trickled from the corner of her lips, and a large yellow stain spread across her chest. The room echoed with the men's laughter.
"Tyron, Katniss, this is revenge for Leon!"
The sender was one of the cronies Tyron had already cut ties with.
Obviously, he'd sent the video to both of them.
Katniss heard movement outside her door.
It was the sound of Tyron brewing coffee. But he hadn't touched a drop of coffee in a long, long time.
Katniss clenched her phone tightly until her knuckles turned white.
"Tyron, this is your last chance. You'd better not let me down," she thought.
