After I Died He Finally Regretted Everything Chapter 01
Five years after being disowned by the family, I ran into my uncle, Arthur Sterling, at a private club.
He was the guest of honor—a powerful underworld godfather celebrating his fiancée taking over the overseas business.
And I was just a hostess.
Not once did our eyes meet the entire night.
Until a drunk guest slammed a dagger onto the table and pointed at me.
"Hey, you. Crawl around on the floor and bark like a dog to spice things up. I'll tip you a thousand. How about it?"
Without a moment's hesitation, I sank to my knees on the cold marble floor.
Surrounded by wolf whistles and jeers, I narrowed my eyes.
And I barked.
After finishing the lap, I propped myself up against the wall. Then came Uncle Arthur's cold sneer.
"You'd rather be a dog in this place than go back and apologize to Christian?"
"Victoria Ashwood, you really are something else. Damn you."
I offered an indifferent smile and held out my hand.
"One thousand. Cash or transfer?"
Years had passed. The old grudges had long since dissipated like smoke.
But this thousand was just enough to pay off the final balance for my urn.
......
Dead silence fell over the private room. Every gaze was pinned on me, filled with varying shades of judgment.
Someone let out a scoff.
On the sofa, Uncle Arthur's knuckles whitened as his fist clenched, his expression darkening.
He felt humiliated.
In their world, a thousand wasn't even enough to tip a valet.
Yet here I was, throwing away my dignity on the floor, barking like a dog for it.
His fiancée, Christian, toyed with her diamond earring and let out a mocking laugh.
"Arthur spent five whole years looking for you, and this is where you are? Playing a dog in a club?" She sneered.
"You might not care about your dignity, but Arthur still cares about his."
I glanced up at her lazily.
"I'm earning money with my own effort. What's shameful about that? It's not like I'm spreading my legs for it."
She curled her red lips. "Desperate for money, are you?"
Crawl two more laps. If I'm entertained, I'll throw in another two thousand."
As soon as the words left her mouth, the room exploded in an uproar. People started throwing money to fuel the fun:
"If Ms. Blackwood is raising the stakes, I'll match two thousand!"
"I'm in for a thousand!"
I didn't hesitate. I was just about to kneel again.
Suddenly, the door to the private room burst open, and the manager squeezed in, bowing and scraping.
He shoved me into the corner and forced a smile at Arthur:
"Arthur, this girl doesn't know the rules. If she's offended you..."
"You want to crawl in her place?"
Arthur crushed his cigar, his eyes dark as a frozen abyss.
Cold sweat broke out on the manager's forehead.
He was afraid I’d get myself killed playing these games, but he was even more terrified of offending the Grim Reaper sitting before him.
He could only offer a dry, nervous laugh:
"This kind of humiliation... even a strong man couldn't handle it, let alone a young girl like her..."
"If you're not crawling, then get lost!"
Uncle Arthur violently kicked over the coffee table, pulled a hundred thousand in cash from his bag, and smashed it against the manager.
"Victoria crawls until the end tonight! You try to stop it again, and I'll burn this damn place to the ground!"
The manager scrambled to scoop up the money, his face crinkling into a wide grin.
He didn't give me another thought, just muttered a thanks and scurried away.
Once again, every eye in the room fixed on me.
Uncle Arthur sneered.
"What? Don't want the money anymore?"
My face remained expressionless. I sank to my knees and began to crawl toward the jeering crowd.
The icy bite of the marble floor seeped into my knees, fighting against the fire of the two bottles of hard liquor churning in my stomach.
Above me, Uncle Arthur's knuckles turned white from the sheer force of his grip.
As I trembled and let out the third bark, he suddenly seized my wrist:
"Victoria, do you have a fucking death wish?!"
"I need the money."
I yanked my hand free and continued crawling across the cold floor.
I had barely uttered a sound before I was viciously kicked away.
"Thud!"
A dull, heavy sound.
My forehead slammed against the sharp corner of the table. Blood mixed with cold sweat, splattering across the floor.
My uncle seized me by the collar and roared:
"Have you thrown away all your dignity just for money?"
"Don't even dream of getting a single cent from me!"
Humiliation seared through my nerves. The neon lights before my eyes twisted, fractured, and finally shattered.
A voice I had buried for five years suddenly roared in my ears.
"You dared to steal the emerald your mother left you? You sold it... for money?"
"Have I ever starved you? Have you ever gone without?"
"If you were that desperate, why didn't you just sell yourself instead!"
"Get out!
From this moment on, you are no niece of mine!"
