No Way Back No Regrets Chapter 01
Five years later, the fake heiress, Andrina Sawyer, was welcomed back to the Sawyer family.
The Sawyer couple felt terrible for the hardships Andrina had endured outside, and Andrina's former fiancé, Nathaniel Curtis, still clung to their old romance. Everyone was waiting to see the reaction of the true heiress, Brielle Sawyer. Would she cry, throw a fit, or have a hysterical breakdown?
Unexpectedly, Brielle just stood quietly watching them unload the luggage, tidying up the room that used to be Andrina's.
Her parents spoke cautiously, "Elle, Rina likes the sunlight in the master bedroom. Perhaps you could..."
"I'll move to the guest room," Brielle cut them off, her voice flat and emotionless. "I'll make room for her right now."
The next day, Nathaniel invited her to a birthday dinner. She waited at the restaurant until 8 PM when she got a call from him. "Sorry, Elle. Rina gets lost at the mall. I..."
Brielle remained calm. "Alright, go pick her up. I'll spend my birthday alone."
On the third day, Brielle's checkup results came out. She was pregnant.
But her parents, Terrence Sawyer and Patricia Caldwell, and Nathaniel reached the exact same decision—she had to abort the baby.
Her parents pleaded through tears, "Elle, you can't keep this baby. Rina cried so hard when she found out you're pregnant. She said... She's afraid that once the baby's born, there'll be even less room for her in this family."
Nathaniel was also silent for a moment before speaking, "Elle, after the mix-up with you and Rina at birth was corrected, you technically replaced her and became my fiancée instead. Rina has already been through so much. Now that she's just come back, seeing you pregnant... It's really hard for her to accept emotionally.
"We can have other babies later. But, this really isn't the right time now."
They talked over each other, going on and on about Andrina's grievances, Andrina's fears, and Andrina's struggles. It was as if Brielle being pregnant was some terrible, ill-timed mistake that needed to be corrected at once.
Everyone waited for her response.
Terrence had already figured out how to comfort Brielle if she cried. Patricia had planned what to say if Brielle insisted on keeping the baby. Nathaniel had even prepared a compensation gift.
But Brielle just set the ultrasound report on the coffee table and nodded. "Fine. When's the abortion? Today? Then I'll head to the hospital now."
With that, she picked up her coat, which was draped over the chair, and stood up to leave.
"Elle!" Patricia froze, calling out to Brielle instinctively. "You... You just ... agreed like that?"
Brielle paused, turning her head slightly. "What else am I supposed to do?"
Terrence looked flustered, too. "You... Don't you have anything else to say?"
"Do my wishes even matter?" Brielle twitched the corner of her mouth. "If I say I wanna keep the baby, will any of you change your mind?"
After saying that, she turned and walked toward the door. The three people behind her exchanged confused glances before finally following her.
At the hospital, the smell of disinfectant was pungent. Brielle changed into a surgical gown, her long hair tucked into a disposable surgical cap, revealing her pale but calm face.
Just as she was about to walk into the operating room, Nathaniel suddenly grabbed her wrist.
"You're really going ahead with the surgery so willingly?" His voice was tense. "Not a bit of pain? No sadness? No struggle? This is our baby. Don't you care about it at all?"
Brielle looked up, meeting his gaze directly.
Nathaniel was exceptionally handsome, with sharp features, deep-set eyes, thin lips habitually pressed slightly together, carrying an innate air of cool detachment and the aura of a superior.
Right now, his brows were slightly furrowed, his eyes swirling with complex, unreadable emotions—confusion, scrutiny, and a flicker of panic even he didn't seem aware of.
Brielle suddenly found it laughable.
"Care?" she repeated softly, as if genuinely thinking. "Nathaniel, have you decided to keep this baby now?"
Nathaniel was stumped by her question. His eyes flickered, avoiding her gaze. And his tone was tense. "That's not what I mean. It's just... You've changed a lot lately."
"Have I?" Brielle smiled, the expression not reaching her eyes. "People change. But..."
Her gaze swept over her parents and Nathaniel, her voice so quiet that it was almost inaudible. "It seems none of you have changed much."
They were still the same, only caring about Andrina.
The irritation in Nathaniel's chest grew stronger, mixed with an indescribable sense of unease.
He tried to tighten his grip on her hand, his voice softening without him noticing. "Elle, don't be like this. We can have other babies in the future, I promise."
In the future?
Brielle laughed, prying his hand off hers. "The surgery's about to start."
She turned and walked toward the operating room, answering him silently in her heart, "No, there won't be.
"We will never have another baby again."
Because she'd already signed the papers to cut ties with her family and end the engagement.
Once the immigration procedures were finalized at the end of the month, she would leave this place for good, leaving all of them behind.
