It seemed that whenever Emily Bennett fell pregnant, she was destined to lose the child to some convenient "accident."
The first time, her prenatal vitamins were swapped for abortion pills. She went into immediate shock from massive hemorrhaging and required an emergency D&C.
The second time, she was stabbed five times. The severe injuries cost her the baby.
The third time, she fell from a third-floor balcony. With eleven fractures, a ruptured uterus, and massive blood loss, she was admitted to the ICU. She had to undergo a hysterectomy just to survive.
She had cheated death. But she was forever stripped of the right to be a mother. The culprit behind it all was James Harrington's childhood sweetheart, Chloe Anderson.
It was laughable. Emily knew exactly who the murderer was. Yet, she couldn't seek justice for herself, or for the three children who had died tragically in her womb.

But just as Emily was barely able to walk after her surgery, she leaned against the wall, intending to get some fresh air. "James, actually, Emily's condition didn't require a hysterectomy at all. Yet you insisted the doctor remove her uterus. You've ensured she can never be a mother!"
Emily felt as if she had been struck by lightning. She pressed her hands firmly against the wall just to stay upright, feeling her blood freeze in her veins.
James sighed. "I had no choice."
His friend was shocked. "No choice?
Then you inciting Chloe, both openly and secretly, to hurt Emily three times in a row, causing her to miscarry every single time—was that also having 'no choice'?
Those were your children!"
Emily stood frozen. It turned out her suffering was all bestowed upon her by her own husband!
"What do you mean 'my children'? They were nothing more than three undeveloped embryos! So what if she miscarried?"
His cold voice felt like steel needles piercing Emily's chest.
She watched him rub his brow.
His stern expression softened unconsciously at the mention of "Chloe." "I swore I would take care of Chloe for the rest of my life. Since she has the mind of a five-year-old, I treat her like my own daughter. I won't let her suffer even the slightest grievance."
"But I couldn't guarantee that once my own child was born, I would still be able to spoil her the same way. I was afraid Chloe would feel neglected. So... I had to do this."
His friend, the doctor, retorted sharply. "Then why don't you just let Emily go?"
The air went dead silent.
Finally, James spoke slowly. "I love Emily."
"She's the woman I want to spend my life with. I can't live without her. This is the only way. I'll transfer twenty percent of the Harrington Group's shares to her. And the villa worth two hundred million. Consider it compensation."
Every word felt like an ice pick driving into Emily's heart. The sentences echoed in her mind.
Torturing her like a slow execution.
Tears slid silently from the corners of her eyes.
Clutching her aching chest, she gasped for air. Forcing her collapsing body to move, she stumbled back to the hospital room.
Chloe was just a pawn to James. The husband she relied on day and night was the executioner wielding the blade against her. He even called their unborn child a mere embryo!
He caused her three miscarriages and robbed her of the chance to ever become a mother,

She nodded and accepted his proposal.
Emily thought she would live happily ever after with him, just as James had promised.
But no one expected that just a month after their wedding, James would get into a car accident while picking up his childhood sweetheart, Chloe, at the airport for Mr. and Mrs. Anderson!
Luckily, both James and Chloe survived. But because Chloe shielded James with her body at the critical moment, the blast damaged her brain, leaving her permanently mentally impaired.
