Burn In What You Broke Chapter 01

“You ruin my leg for her, make me her dog, and now you want me to forgive you?”
“I can’t live… Without you.
“Erica, I’ll do anything—please.”
“Then disappear.”
Chapter 1
“In our fifth year of marriage, he shattered my leg—for another woman.”
That night, I placed my prosthetic leg in the bathtub, poured artificial blood, and watched his mistress scream.
He threw a knife on the table and said,
“Sign the divorce papers— or die.”
I laughed and let the blade pierce my skin.
“Go ahead, Fredric. Kill me.”
But he dropped the knife and fled—like a coward.
What he never knew was that I endured his cruelty and her torment
only because my father used my mother’s life to keep me bound.
He said if I left, she would die—so I stayed, bleeding for a promise already buried.
When I learned my mother had jumped to her death seven years ago— the last chain broke.
That day, I walked away, no longer anyone’s pawn, no one’s prey.
Years later, he came to my door—gaunt, trembling, regret dripping from every word.
“Erica, I love you. Please… come home.”
I pressed him against the wall, so close he could taste the ashes on my breath.
“Home?” I whispered. “You broke it, love.”
I leaned in, my lips by his ear.
“Now burn in it.”

In the fifth year of my arranged marriage to Fredric Monroe, he ruined one of my legs for his beloved crush, Rhoda Velasquez.
I later spent a fortune on a hyper-realistic prosthetic.
While Fredric was busy being tender with his beloved crush, I quietly placed the prosthetic leg in the bathtub and poured in artificial blood.
I was just starting to savor the look of pure horror on Rhoda’s pale face as she collapsed—when I suddenly noticed real blood spreading beneath her.
She had been pregnant. And the shock I gave her sent her straight into a miscarriage.
Everyone said Fredric would go mad with revenge.
But instead, he simply placed a knife and a divorce agreement in front of me with icy calm.
“You have two choices.
“One, I kill you—so you can pay for Rhoda and the child.
“Two, sign this divorce, and we’ll never cross paths again.”

I stared at the knife and the papers, then let out a cold laugh.
“You want me to pay with my life for you and Rhoda’s bastard child? Fredric, have you lost your mind?
“And what about the leg you destroyed? How do we settle that?”
His fists tightened, veins standing out on his forehead as he struggled to hold back his fury.
Then, he snapped at me, “Enough, Erica! That was a human life!
“If you hadn’t gone after Rhoda back then, your leg wouldn’t have been ruined. You brought this on yourself!”
I stared straight at Fredric. Right in front of him, I tore the divorce papers to shreds.
“Fredric, you just wanna take my life, don’t you?
“Fine. I’ll give what you want!”
With that, I shoved the knife into his hand, wrapped my fingers around his, and drove the blade toward my own throat.
“Go on! Kill me! That should make up for your precious child!”
Fredric’s eyes blazed with fury, wide with rage.
“You think I don’t dare?” he said.
The tip of the knife pierced my skin, and warm blood slid down my neck.
But suddenly, Fredric dropped the knife.
“You’re insane!”
He turned and fled in panic, leaving chaos behind him.
I watched his retreating figure with a bitter smile and stubbornly wiped the tears from my face.
I knew it. Fredric couldn’t bring himself to let me die.
This tragedy had been written the day our marriage began five years ago.
Fredric and I… We were destined to drag each other down.
