I Wasn’t His Mistress Chapter 01

After I was pregnent, my husband’s secretary mistakenly treated me as his mistress and assaulted me, causing a misc arriage.
Chapter 1
Three years into our marriage, I was finally pregnant.
I was on my way to my husband’s office, lunch bag in hand, ready to share the news.
Instead, his secretary mistook me for his mistress.
She dumped the food on my head, tore my clothes off, and beat me until I lost the baby.
“A lowly maid, thinking you could seduce Mr. Fletcher and carry his child?
“Let me show you what happens to a homewrecker’s bastard.”
Then, proud of herself, she said to my husband, “Mr. Fletcher, I handled a maid who was trying to seduce you. Don’t I deserve a reward?”

I hadn’t been able to keep anything down lately, so I went to the hospital.
When the doctor told me I was pregnant, I cried from sheer happiness.
My husband and I grew up together. We married right after college and tried ever since to get pregnant, with no luck.
He’d always comforted me, “It’ll happen when it’s meant to. Maybe our kid is just waiting for the perfect time.”
Well, now was the perfect time.
“Ma’am, you’re four months along. The pregnancy is stable, but you must avoid any physical impact.”
A soft smile touched my lips as I rested a hand on my slightly rounded stomach.
I had been pregnant for four months.
My cycle had always been irregular, and I’d just assumed the extra weight was from eating more lately.
Back home, buzzing with excitement, I made lunch and decided to deliver it to my husband myself. I wanted to tell him face-to-face.
Lunchbox in hand, I walked into the Fletcher Group.
Just as I reached his office’s doorway, a sharply dressed woman blocked my path.
“Can I help you?”
Her voice was cold, her eyes scanning me with open disdain.
I lifted the lunchbox. “I brought lunch for Edmund Fletcher.”
Around strangers, I usually avoided letting them know our relationship.
She seemed to relax, a smirk playing on her lips. “So you’re a maid. I’m Melinda Welch, Mr. Fletcher’s executive assistant.
“You can leave the food with me. I’ll make sure he gets it. Just leave.”
I shook my head. “I’m not a maid. And I’d like to give it to him personally. Please, let me through.”
Instantly furious, she snatched the lunchbox from my grip.
“Who do you think you are? A domestic help trying to cozy up to Mr. Fletcher?
“Look at how you’re dressed. Someone needs to put you in your place.”
She yanked me into a conference room, slammed the door, and slapped me hard across the face.
The force sent me sprawling to the floor, my cheek already burning and swelling.
Before I could process it, a sharp kick connected with my head.
“My baby!” I shouted inwardly.
Panic surged. I curled into a ball, my arms wrapping tightly around my stomach.
“Let’s see what gourmet meal you cooked.”
Melinda opened the container and dumped its contents over my head.
The hot stew I’d spent three hours making dripped down my hair and face to the floor, scalding my scalp.
But I stayed curled up, petrified of harming my child.
“Oh, fried chicken too.
“You dirty chick! That’s how you seduce men, huh?”
Her hand shot out and gripped my chin, fingers digging in to force my mouth open.
“Play a baik at bed, but play a housewife at the office? Just eat your shit!”
She shoved a piece of saucy fried chicken into my face.
Spicy grease stung my eyes and clogged my nose. I cried out in pain.
Melinda dusted her hands off with a look of disgust. “Revolting. So greasy-nearly ruined my new manicure.”
She stared down at me. “Don’t tell me you actually believe that ‘way to a man’s heart’ nonsense.
“What makes a lowly girl like you think you’re good enough for him?”
I tried to speak, but the moment I opened my mouth, a violent cough seized me.
The spice had gone down the wrong way, and I couldn’t get a word out.
A knock sounded on the door.
“Melinda? Everything okay in there?”
