Missing Fiancé? Nah He Was Just Busy Marrying My Bestie Chapter 01
The first time I saw Atlas Knight after his three-year disappearance was at my college roommate Bella Monroe’s wedding.
He was the groom. I was a bridesmaid.
Bella was all giggles as she pulled me aside to share their love story.
“You know, I saved him from jumping off a building when his company tanked! Heard there was some crazy chick kept pursuing him. But I got him London and got him back on track.”
“How’s that, Celeste? Pretty badass, right?”
Bella kept rambling on, but I couldn’t hear a damn word. My head was spinning.
Three years. Over a thousand days and nights. The love of my life had been hidden away by my roommate this whole time.
I felt like all the air got sucked out of my lungs. My hands wouldn’t stop shaking.
Bella saw my face go white and quickly pulled me into the bridal suite. “Celeste, what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
For three years, I searched everywhere for Atlas. I traveled across the US and asked around. I plastered missing person posters, called the cops, even got his story trending on Twitter.
Even his family gave up, thinking he really did kill himself. But not me. I knew he was alive. I never stopped looking.
In the dark of countless nights, I stood on rooftops, ready to just… end it all. The pain was eating me alive.
And now? It’s all a fucking joke.
I stared at the scars covering my arms – I’d cut myself just to feel something other than the emptiness. My eyes burned, my chest aching like it was being sliced open.
Bella sighed. “Still thinking about him? Girl, it’s been forever. It’s time to move on. You can find someone new. Look at me – I moved on and found an amazing guy.”
“Actually, maybe Atlas can introduce you to a few of his friends.”
Right as she said his name, Atlas walked in. He looked exactly the same – tall, broad shoulders, that perfectly fitted black tux. Like no time had passed at all.
Except when our eyes met, there was nothing there. He used to look at me like I was his whole world. Now he just glanced right through me and went straight to fix Bella’s veil.
His groomsmen filed in behind him – the same guys who used to call me “sis” and ask when Atlas was gonna propose.
They all saw me standing there. All looked at me like they had something to say but couldn’t find the words.
For a split second, I might have told myself maybe he had amnesia from the fall—he didn’t remember me.
But every one of his friends around him made it clear—he remembered everything.
He just didn’t love me anymore.
Bella gazed up at Atlas like he’d hung the moon. “Babe, don’t let the guys leave tonight, okay? Let’s throw a huge party and have a blast.”
She shot me a quick glance as she said that.
Atlas barely nodded, his eyes glued to Bella. He didn’t look at me once.
Like I was a complete stranger.
I slowly shut my eyes, and my heart felt like it was being crushed—like someone was tearing it apart and tossing it into flames.
It hurt. God, it hurt so much.
I stumbled into the bathroom and slid down the wall until I hit the floor. The cold tiles pressed against my back as this crushing pain ripped through me.
I could barely get the words out through my tears.
“Atlas… how could you just fucking leave me?”
